Dash TT Setup
John, Are there any TT-specific mount options in the works? If not, I'd like to put in a request for a steer tube mount that places the Dash closer to the tips of the aerobars. That would allow a quick glance at the numbers without tucking the head down to look back. A 4" or 5" extension w...

Re: RWS option?
John, now that the RWS is in the iBike store do you have any advice for determining when it's required on a TT setup? I'm curious to know what kind of TT setups you saw where the RWS wasn't necessary. I ran the RWS with the iAero, but if I can get away without it that'd be my preference. I'm pretty ...

Thanks John, that helps a lot. I'm sure I'll figure out more as I experiment a bit.
Inferring from your description, it looks like the green wedge is something like 95% to 105% of FTP.

Re: iBike app is available!
For example, in the screen shot below (taken off the iTunes store) there are several power-related things going on: 1) 329 on the power gauge 2) a blue line on the power gauge. Is this normalized power over some period of time? 3) a green wedge on the power gauge. Is this power range over some perio...

Re: Simple Question: iBike Dash + Power + DFPM
@bjrmd That's a really pretty graph. It's encouraging to see these two PMs tracking so closely on an effort. I noticed that your speed didn't increase despite the power you generated, so I assume this is a climb and you were probably out of the saddle. Do you have a similar effort in the flats at al...

Re: iBike app is available!
I've had all of 2 rides with the Dash, so I'm pretty green when it comes to the iBike app. Can someone lend me a hand here? Below are the questions I've had thus far: 1) Is a summary sheet available that describes all the fields available to user screens? For example, what's a Match mean in the iBik...

Re: Simple Question: iBike Dash + Power + DFPM
@ Fernando Yeah, you're not selling that slow sprint talk here -- I've lined up beside people like you before. ;) When I say sprints I mean max solo efforts, out of the saddle and rocking the bike hard for 10 to 60 seconds. When spring comes around, my coach's idea of fun is working in 2 or 3 days o...

Re: Simple Question: iBike Dash + Power + DFPM
OK, I was back on the rollers this morning with fresh insights and a new user screen with fields for both Power and DFPM. I knew that the lack of wind would seriously throw off the Power number, so I put the Dash in trainer mode thinking that I would base my workout on the DFPM numbers but that I co...

Re: Simple Question: iBike Dash + Power + DFPM
Try as we might, we haven't been successful in determining whether or not hard sprinting can be issue for the iBike, or if instead this is an urban myth. Re: Simple Question: iBike Dash + Power + DFPM
There's the problem... when you spin the front wheel, you must have lifted the front of your bike up - the iDash thinks you are climbing up an incline at a certain speed hence the huge power spike! Yeah, that's right. I was assuming that the Dash's power values would be replaced by those of the DFP...

Re: Simple Question: iBike Dash + Power + DFPM
Ah ha! I think I see now. In the 'Configure User Screens' section there's a field for DFPM power, so I'm guessing I can build a screen with that instead of Power if I want (which I do). So now this begs the question: Does DFPM contribute to any of the aggregate power fields (i.e. Normalized Power, F...

Simple Question: iBike Dash + Power + DFPM
I have my iBike Dash + Power paired with a PT wheel. Speed, cadence, HR, and DFPM all seem to be paired correctly and the DFPM is zeroed. The unit is not in trainer mode and my speed sensor on my front wheel. Here's the problem: When I spin my front wheel I get a reasonable speed readout plus huge p...

Re: iBike Dash Steer Tube Mount Incompatibility
Thanks Boyd. I have rather weak wrench skills, but I'm gathering that I need to replace my existing compression plug with one that's compatible with the Dash mount. I'll probably let my LBS deal with it then.

Re: iBike Dash Steer Tube Mount Incompatibility
Thanks for the suggestion John. I suppose a reducer / coupler would do the trick. The coupler would need female threads on each end and I'd need a shorter bolt for the Dash steer tub cap, but it looks like that's doable. The trick will be to find a small coupler with the appropriate sizes on each en...

I received my Dash last week while I was out of town (thanks John), but I came home Friday night so I planned on installing it on my TT bike for the normal Saturday ride. iBike Dash speed/cadence sensor and HR strap
I saw a web site citing improvements in the iBike Dash speed/cadence sensor and HR strap. While I'm guessing that it was just sales fodder, it seems worth a question or two. Is there anything special about the Dash's speed/cadence sensor or is is just a rebranding of the Garmin GSC 10? Personally, I...

Steer tube mount for Gen III
John, can you give us an ETA for the new steer tube mount for the Gen 3? Due to an unfortunate incident, I'll be rebuilding my bike and I'll need a new mount for the iAero. I plan to get an iBike Dash in a few months, so I'd greatly prefer to not deal with the old stem mount in the rebuild if possib...

Re: No iPhone no Future?
For those without iPhones, with the release of the iPhone 4 there are bound to be plenty of used iPhone 3's and 3GS's on the market soon for not much money. If you're not using the phone or 3G data features you don't need AT&T and can just run it as a computer.

Re: Some key features of the iBike Dash
John, I just ran a TT yesterday and that sparked another question: Will you consider a TT-specific mount that extends the iDash closer to the hands when on the aero bars? It'd be helpful to be able to check the numbers by just glancing down instead of looking back at the stem. I won my race yesterda...

Hey John,
Kudos on the design of an extremely creative product. You guys are always pushing the envelope -- great job!
How does the Dash deal with airflow issues on TT bikes? Is there still the need for a remote wind sensor?

Re: RWS Modification Question
OK, here's experiment #1: IMG_0323.jpg I found some 1/4" OD copper tubing at Home Depot, which fits nicely in the 1/4" ID plastic tubing of the stock RWS. I cut a 16" segment of the tubing and bent it into an S shape with 2.25" diameter arcs, being careful to leave enough of a ba...

RWS Modification Question
Is there anything magical about the tubing used in the RWS? I'm currently running the stock RWS on my TT bike with the intake taped in place on my bar about 2/3's the way to the brake lever. While this is an OK position and I'm getting clean air there, I'd like to experiment with a more compact inst...

Re: Missing DFPM data
Ah, so that's what happened. I didn't realize that the new firmware now calculates power without the cadence sensor -- good to know. No, there's not DFPM data in the .csv file, so I guess the PT wasn't recording for some reason. The bad thing for me is that I was riding with a bad profile. I was on ...

Missing DFPM data
I started a training ride a couple of days ago without noticing that my mechanic has forgotten to reinstall my cadence magnet after working on my cranks. Since I was riding a PT wheel, I thought "No big deal. I'll just do without cadence data on this ride and rely on the PT power numbers."...

Re: No speed data (not the usual newbie question)
Mystery solved. Her tire circumference was set to zero in profile 1. On the plus side, her Crr was extremely low.
She set it to 2096 (the default) and now profile 1 works. Thanks again Fernando.

No speed data (not the usual newbie question)
I have a friend (yeah, that's how it always starts...) who was having trouble getting speed data from her unit. We tried everything, checked the magnet, hard reset all the components twice, repaired a zillion times, always got the same result: Speed sensor paired, but iBike didn't report speed data....
