Re: Question about wind speed data
I tried it with both the FIT file windspeed and the CSV file windspeed and never got results that made sense. During the process I did start to wonder whether a pitot tube at the front/center of the bike can measure accurate tail wind speed if the wind speed is greater than the bike speed. I don't t...

Re: Question about wind speed data
Thank you for the information. I was attempting to estimate the vector windspeed by combining direction-of-travel data from the GPS with headwind data from the Aeropod and using those pairs to find the direction with maximum headwind but as best I can tell there is enough data smoothing in the winds...

Re: Problem with Aeropod calibration
I finally did get the Aeropod to do a calibration procedure in Profile 3 but it is not receiving the DFPM data with any reliability and the power displayed for the cal ride is so odd that I'm not confident I should trust the resulting calibration. Although I was pedaling essentially all of the time ...

Question about wind speed data
Apologies if this has been asked before but I haven't found anything via search. I have been trying to make sense of the wind speed data I see in my ride files. My impression is that the CSV files exported by Isaac report wind speeds that are different from the wind speeds recorded in FIT files by t...

Re: Problem with Aeropod calibration
Thanks for following up. I use a Powertap C1 chainring DFPM. As best I can tell it is functioning normally and it is the same DFPM I have used on that bike for the last 3-4 years. My Garmin did not show anything unusual about the power data. I tried attaching the TCX file but apparently it's too lar...

Re: Problem with Aeropod calibration
I never did get the Aeropod to do a standard calibration ride even after a hard reset. I ended up choosing an out/back about 1.5 miles each way and then used that to set calibration in Isaac. Today I did a time trial then afterwards I did a few coastdown runs on a couple of hills while switching bac...

Re: Problem with Aeropod calibration
Thanks for working on this. It was supposed to be in Profile 4, which is what I set via Powerhouse yesterday when I had the same problem getting a calibration ride started but I forgot to confirm the profile this morning. Just now I confirmed that Powerhouse still reports Profile 4 is active. I'll t...

Problem with Aeropod calibration
I dusted off the Aeropod after not using it for a while but I have been unable to initiate a calibration ride. I have tried (multiple times) starting the Aeropod by pressing the button for several seconds after all of the Ant+ sensors are "awake". The light will flash green for a while the...

Re: Work Flow for using Aeropod
I have been puzzling over how to integrate all of this information into a workflow. When I want to do CdA testing I need to be able to change equipment or make an adjustment to the bike between tests. All of the available locations that are suitable for making those changes are unsuitable as locatio...

Check Calibration
It is possible to use the "Check Calibration" tool in Isaac to analyze a file and identify possible Aeropod configuration problems. Doing so requires that a ride start and end in the same location. My Aeropod rides very rarely end where they began because riding from home I cannot avoid a ...

Feature request
One of the challenges I encounter when combining data from multiple sources (eg: Aeropod plus my Garmin) is the fact that the Aeropod (or perhaps Isaac) leaves gaps in the data streams of the exported CSV files. My guess is that this was originally done as a way to reduce storage requirements but th...

Re: Work Flow for using Aeropod
Thank you for the information. In my case I don't click the Aeropod button at all ... but for reasons unrelated to CdA data collection I do use the lap button on my Garmin head unit to help me keep track of events during the ride. That does insert a lap marker into the Aeropod file. If that causes a...

Re: Work Flow for using Aeropod
Thank you for the information. Would it be correct to conclude that in Profile 4 if one is doing an out/back calibration ride instead of laps the lap button should be pressed only at the beginning and end of the full out/back and should not be used to mark the turn-around point? If the lap button is...

Work Flow for using Aeropod
There are so many documents with instructions and information that I've long since lost track of what is actually current and what a "best practice" might be for using the Aeropod. What I'm trying to sort out is the best sequence for certain steps in the process of calibrating and using Ae...

Re: Is there any way to test whether the Aeropod is functioning correctly?
Your assumption about processor power is wrong. AP on-board processor has access to the raw data and works well; Isaac must re-process exported data. There are any number of posts in the forum that appear to suggest that the IBR file contains the raw data collected during the ride, though some of t...

Re: Confused by multiple CdA results
It is very frustrating to be given data to analyze, then to analyze it, and afterwards to be told "the file I submitted was not optimal for use with AeroPod". Please, if you are asking for assistance, provide the best information you can... I apologize for any frustration caused. I was su...

Re: Is there any way to test whether the Aeropod is functioning correctly?
I think what is happening is that Isaac CdA Analysis is being pushed beyond its current capabilities (we have more current algorithms in AeroPod than in Isaac). I hope that addressing the MANY deficiencies in Isaac is on the agenda for the future? I would have thought that since Isaac has access to...

Is there any way to test whether the Aeropod is functioning correctly?
I have not yet been able to obtain any credible data with the Aeropod. It's not for lack of trying, I just don't seem to be able to get any degree of reproducibility between trials. I'm willing to accept that others believe they have been able to generate meaningful data. One possibility is that I'm...

Re: Confused by multiple CdA results
And another example from the same day: https://velocompforum.com/download/file.php?id=5785 It would appear that Isaac has a hard time deciding what the CdA actually is. Addend: I realized after-the-fact that in the picture I highlighted average cadence instead of average HR in the summary data. Corr...

Re: Confused by multiple CdA results
I understand that the file I submitted was not optimal for use with Aeropod. It was just a handy example of a discrepancy in the analysis of the data. I was not actually aiming to get a CdA measurement from Aeropod on that ride. In fact I'm close to abandoning Aeropod for its intended use because I ...

Confused by multiple CdA results
While trying to analyze some data I realized that Isaac is offering me THREE different CdA results for the same data. I recorded a ride in Profile 4 using my Aeropod and the bike's DFPM. I edited the activity to remove everything except for 3 laps of a loop. The loop was not ideal because it require...

Re: AeroPod CdA Connect IQ app for Garmin
The impression I have from prior posts is that the Velocomp Connect IQ app won't be in the Garmin app store any time soon. My guess is that the current app will have to be updated if/when there is an Ant+ standard for communicating CdA and related data. I hope that whenever that happens the app will...

Question about headwind
I understand from another thread that the wind speed reported by Aeropod is the apparent wind speed opposite of the direction of travel, ie: apparent headwind. I have been trying to correlate results from Aeropod with results from Golden Cheetah's Aerolab and have encountered some odd results. I hav...

Re: Problem with altitude adjustment
The Analyze Route option looks for symmetry and same/similar starting and ending elevation. If it finds that it will offer the option to make the start/stop elevation the same. If it doesn't think the end point is the same as the start point it won't. This feature applies to the entire ride, not to...

Re: Workflow for analyzing a file
The issue with weight is this: Depending on which bike I ride and what equipment I have on it there can be a difference of several pounds in total weight. When I initiate sensor pairing the Aeropod has no way of knowing what the correct weight is for the bike even if it has my weight right. On any g...

Workflow for analyzing a file
Calibration rides are ideally done on relatively flat courses so rider weight does not enter into the calibration. On the other hand real-world loops generally have some climbing and weight does become an issue. If I calibrate the Aeropod in the field and then proceed with CdA testing the ride file ...

As part of the "analyze route" functionality Isaac offers a couple of choices for correcting altitude measurements. As best I can tell selecting a time range from the workout does not affect what Isaac displays in the Analyze Route dialog, it always seems to display the entire workout in t...
