Success! The problems I was suffering seem to have been down to a fading battery in my cadence sensor. I changed the battery and all of a sudden 'everything' seemed to work much better. Looks as if the Powerpod split my ride in two.

I definitely was not banging out over 1000W in the first mile!

The first spike in the 28 mile file is where I tried to reboot the Garmin to get the HRM working. You can see where the cadence sensor stopped and set itself to '255'.
