Re: Water in ibike
I have had success with clear packing tape over the screen (overlapped enough to seal the crack between screen and case). I also use a remote wind sensor in rain, and this keeps the wind port from ingesting water in heavy rain. If I know I will be out in the rain for a significant period, I also wra...

At the upper right above the charts, click the "show" button. In the dialog that opens, check the "advanced stats" box at lower right.

Re: Speed spikes HIGHER with wired mount
rruff... Since you recently moved the sensor to this wheel (and I assume it worked fine before), it makes it seem like the current physical setup would be more suspect than the hardware. You might try repositioning the magnet slightly, even rotating it 90 degrees. A magnet has a field that is shaped...

Re: Zero watts reading when going up hill
lorduintah has posted an excellent procedure for checking your tilt functionality. However, cadence should be independent of tilt and no matter how poor your tilt cal it would not affect the reported cadence. Does cadence register when you are descending? Since you say the wireless was a recent purc...

Re: Positive Riding Tilt?
I'll leave the file analysis to the experts, but have to ask, did you do a good tilt procedure and wind offset immediately prior to embarking on the cal ride? The old tilt stored in your profile will be incorrect due to the stem change.

Re: What causing iBike Gen III to be reading too much Power
Have you looked at the profiles from the "good" data compared to the current to see if anything changed? What does the wind speed look like on the speed chart? Is it always more than the wheel speed (ie as if you are now always in a head wind)? If so, and assuming you are doing a wind offs...

Are you running the full version of Windows 7? The silicon labs piece is not compatible with the 'starter' version.

You can get rare earth magnets at Radio Shack. They are tiny (but super powerful) and I glue them right to the spoke. Work great.

Here's a feature request. It would be great if you could dump a ride file to an iPhone or similar smart device to free up iBike memory space. Not looking for analysis or any other features, just store the raw data file and email it to a base computer. I am leaving in March for a two month ride acros...

Re: Mid-Ride Wind Cal with RWS
I understand the reasons for not pressing a finger into the wind port directly on the iBike. It is sensitive enough and the volume of trapped air is small enough that you could inadvertently create a small amount of pressure that the sensor would read during the cal button press. Early on the Veloco...

Mid-Ride Wind Cal with RWS
Would it be considered acceptable to seal off the inlet end of the RWS lightly with a finger tip to do a Wind Cal at a mid-ride stop? This time of year we can get fairly large temperature gains during a morning or late afternoon ride of a couple of hours and if I think of it I will sometimes do a wi...

Personally I have used the iAero to successfully pace my effort in several century rides. The unit performed well in all conditions of crosswinds, paceline, etc. I had no reason to doubt it. In Wichita Falls, TX this year I was able to use power output as well as IF during the ride to pace to my fir...

Re: iBike and Weight Loss
I just started riding a bike again in Oct. 2007 (age 55). My starting point was fairly sedentary other than golf and about 194 pounds (lifetime high weight was 200 so I was not far from it). I rode about 5000 miles the first year, not really training, just riding around, and lost about 7 or 8 lbs. a...

Re: Erratic speed
You might try rotating the magnet 90 degrees on the spoke. In other words, if the magnet is now facing you as you face the wheel, move it so it faces either the front or the rear of the bike. Magnets produce a field that has two poles. You can imagine it as two spheres or an hour glass emanating fro...

Re: Rain & the Wind Port
When you put the head unit in your pocket, it would be advisable to cover the mount. The mounted head unit provides some degree of protection to water intrusion to the mount. I carry a small plastic baggie and rubber band it over the mount while riding with not head unit (or when transporting the bi...

Re: Trainer Mode Cuts Off When On The Trainer
If you simply put a piece of tape over the wind sensor port you can have the fan as close as you want and the iBike will still sense a zero mph wind. Just remember to take the tape off when you move back outdoors, or you will get bubkiss out there.

Just a hunch, but I think if you contacted John Hamann directly he would work something out for you for a strap only purchase.
Barring that, I think I've seen the Garmin strap for sale in several places.. As an ant+ sport device it should work with iBike.

I also have a G3 iAero, and I would say I am getting a good month or more out of batteries, riding about 12 hours per week. Have you been changing the mount batteries also? Low battery in the mount will drain the head unit. The only time I have had very short battery life it turned out I had a corro...

Not sure if the fit test works in trainer mode, but I know that intervals work in trainer mode. You can do the fit test as a USR interval and manually input the FTP you determine. I like this mode because you can also see HR during the test.

Re: Rain & the Wind Port
My experience with riding in the rain has been that the unit can tolerate a moderate amount of rain, but then eventually "drowns" if the intensity or duration reaches a certain point. The main way I can tell it has drowned is that the watts start to increase disproportionately to anything ...

Re: Wireless failure after changing battery in iPro.
I had a wireless mount fail due to a corroded contact from water getting in the battery door. With the new mount, I have basically been covering it with plastic if I don't have the iAero mounted to it, unless the bike is in the garage. If you are spraying your bike with water the mount is definitely...

I did the fitness test in early January (due for an updated one) and was Level 4, 3.35 watts/kg, 267 avg watts. I first purchased an iBike in March 2008 and did a version of the fit test I got out of a Joel Friel book at that time, and did only 1.97 watts/kg (Level 1). I owe all this improvement to ...

Re: New TT application for iBike
I am intrigued by this setup even though I do not have a TT bike. I can see this having applicability for a road bike on a rainy ride. You would not need as much tubing as this, you would just need enough downward slope of the tube to prevent rain water from being forced up the tube for ingestion by...

Unit Recovery After Rain
First let me preface by saying I am well-aware the iAero is not expected to perform in heavy rain... For instance today I got caught out in a heavy rain and the power readings started getting squi...

You might try moving your magnet slightly or even rotating it 90 degrees around the spoke. A magnet has a north and south pole and the field around it looks like an hour glass (three dimensional figure 8). In some cases the sensor can pick up both lobes of this field and double count each pass of th...

Vibration, What Vibration?
I did a ride this weekend called Rouge Robaix that had over 20 miles of gravel roads plus some of the worst-quality roads Louisiana has to offer (some paved sections make you look forward to the next gravel). Through 102 miles of this, the iAero never once had a vibration drop out. I can't think of ...
