Re: wireless mounts and water redux
Thanks for answering. The contacts are corroded. I will try to clean them off: suggestions for how to do this? Q-tip and alchohol? If the unit is toast, is there a way to just purchase the replacement mount and not the ant+ sensors and hr strap??? If you're on FB, this is from Sunday, the less rainy...

wireless mounts and water redux
I searched around the forum and haven't found feedback, so I'll post my situation: This weekend's races were WET. All kinds of wet. Wet enough to mess up the wind-port with an RWS attached wet. I thought I was prepared: that is, I taped over the wireless mount on my road bike to prevent water seepin...

Re: Racing in a tri w/ an Ibike
What generation is your iBike? If it's a gen3, you do not need to do a new tilt cal before every ride. Boyd suggests doing one a week, but I have found that the only time I need to redo a tilt cal is if I have re-loaded a profile from the computer into the unit for any reason. So . . . if you have a...

Re: Calibration questions
That would make sense . . . Here's a feature request, since this thread has been thoroughly high-jacked: how difficult would it be to get a lap marker inserted at the beginning of the first interval in a programmed set? Currently I mark a lap about 30 seconds before I start the interval set, then st...

Re: Calibration questions
to dbrouse about the intervals: You get 20 effort/recovery steps (at least), so this workout might fit. And I'm pretty sure that I've done a workout with more than 20 steps . . . If it doesn't, I'd exclude the last tempo-ish level effort: that's pretty easy to track with the timer and a lap feature....

Re: Calibration questions
You could, but I start second-guessing and miscounting. Programming the intervals takes a little time, but one you do it, you have the workout, AND once you're on the bike, it's one or two button-presses instead of a couple of dozen . . . You will have to specify a wattage target for hard though: 12...

Re: Calibration questions
I'm not Boyd, but I'd say no--
There's no way you'll get all the button-pushing right while you're cross-eyed.
Pre-program that sucker in ib4 and send it to the iBike.
Then you just do the workout on auto-pilot like . . .

Re: RWS on TT bike
try this thread: http://www.ibikeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=1062 I hear you about consistency between bikes. Apparently this is a topic of some debate in quarters beyond iBike-land--since for many riders, the power they can produce on the tt bike is not equal to what they can produce on the ...

Re: RWS on TT bike
search the forum a bit for pics of Boyd's set-up, which involves placing a mount on a section of steer-tube above your stem and routing the rws along-side one of the aero-extensions. Boyd's method was great for me for two reasons: 1. I had a handle-bar wireless mount, so mounting that on the steerer...

black unit case or white unit case?
The black case tends to make the thermometer read high, too.

Let me emphasize Boyd's point with an anecdote (because I'm too lazy to do a screengrab).
The iBike's wind-port can not only capture when you're drafting--it can also capture the change in wind when you're passed by a semi.

one detail: it's not necessary to press the center button to start the pre-programmed intervals: you get a 10 second count-down, and then it starts.

Re: Battery measurements
Typically, I start getting the spd fail message when the battery in the wireless mount starts to go.
The batteries in the sensors will last a year or more.
Batteries in the unit go quickest; batteries in the wireless mount seem to last about 40-50 hours of ride time for me.

1. I've not had problem with moisture getting in through the screen. 2. I used some number tape (grizzy grip) to tape over the battery seal of the wireless mount. Looking at the forecast beforehand, I knew we were gonna get swamped, so I did not ride with the iAero mounted. I have read of other user...

Re: Poor Cold Weather Performance
Tom--was this Fayetteville? If so, I'm almost certain that battery life was not the problem: water in the wind port is. I experienced a similar problem at F-ville last year (although the weather was just misty/foggy, not the downpour of Saturday). Check your wind-scaling numbers--if they are WAY out...

If you do not have a separate power meter (power tap, quarc, srm) don't worry about it--somewhere along the line when you started up your ibike it picked up a signal from one, or in your profile there's a code for a direct force power meter. When the unit does not pick up this signal on start up, it...

Or . . . don't worry about it that much. The extra weight will affect power reading most on uphills--and even then it's not THAT significant.
What's more significant is if the packs drastically affect your wind exposure.

ditto. I have noticed that it happens most often if the unit picks up a spd or cad sensor while the auto-cal is in process. (Or, if it's on your desk, generating a wireless fail--although that's just a guess because I have not seen that one with my unit). If I start up the unit before moving the rea...

Re: What's coming next?
I don't understand a lot of this desire for more numbers. The more I ride with power, I find I want one number most: current power. If I'm doing intervals, two numbers: current power and time to go. If I've got my ftp tested correctly, and, if the workout is designed correctly, those are the only tw...

odd target watts in intervals
Specifically, in both a user-programmed (ib3) interval set and a pre-determined set (the 3rd strength workout), my iAero has shown me -280w as the target watts for the interval. I always thought riding negative-splits meant something else . . . Seriously, any ideas as to what's causing this? (I reme...

The batteries in the sensors (cadence/speed) seem to last a year or more. Battery in the hr strap a couple of months (I don't use this anymore); and the battery in the wireless mount seems to last about a month (or 40 hours of ride time or so). I can tell that the wireless mount battery's going when...

Re: Testing batteries with a wireless setup
I bought a bulk load of batteries (sony's work best for me). The battery test looks for 275 as the good/bad cut off, but if the temps in the 30s or 40s I've found I need the battery voltage to be in 300+ to make it for 3 or more hours. So . . . yeah, I do the go to set up and check the battery level...

one little thng:
if you can (i.e. you have a round magnet AND you have a pedal that screws in with an 8 or 10mm hex key, you can silicon glue the magnet in place in the pedal spindle. Looks much nicer than a zip-tie . . . (and it's easy to get the magnet out if you need to remove the pedal).

Re: ibike and Cross Winds
I have some apparently conflicting observations to report about iAero performance in cross-winds on a tt-bike set-up. 1. I have seen my iAero under-report in a complete side-wind. It was much worse if the cross-wind is perpendicular (90 or 240 degrees) or slightly behind. This under-reporting was mo...
