Re: iBike Dash +Power
Power output whilst cycling is stochastic by its very nature [1], and therefore will fluctuate considerably whilst training out on the road due to air density and the gradient of the road etc. However, if you are performing intervals on a turbo or rollers power numbers will be more stable as these v...

Re: trainer mode-data dropouts and inaccurate watts
Problem solved, I hope. After 7 hours of tinkering I had just about given up on any training today, then I thought even if power is not displayed I could glean from the speed/power curve in the ibike software what speed I needed to reach to attain the power required and then target that speed with m...

Re: trainer mode-data dropouts and inaccurate watts
Yeah, I've reloaded the profile several times as well as doing several hard resets. Hopefully when John is online he will have an answer or enable me to load a slightly tweaked version of firmware 4.26 (so that the unit thinks it is a new update).

Re: trainer mode-data dropouts and inaccurate watts
I have just tried using the profile for resistance level 2 of the emotion rollers whose speed/power curve look very similar to the Kreitlers, however the issue still remains.

Re: trainer mode-data dropouts and inaccurate watts
No, I'm not using a custom profile. I have the standard roller profile loaded for the Kreitler 2.25 inch drums (though they are alloy and not plastic) with the fan one quarter open. I have also tried similar to what you suggested- I loaded the profile with the fan half open, but the issue still rema...

Re: trainer mode-data dropouts and inaccurate watts
It seems to me the algorithm for the indoor trainer is somehow corrupted and operating in reverse. The higher the cadence or gear the lower the watts displayed. Unfortunately, resending the trainer profile or switching the indoor trainer mode from the software does not rectify the issue.

Re: trainer mode-data dropouts and inaccurate watts
Yeah I've tried all those procedures mate. Oddly enough to0, the faster I pedal the lower the watts progressively dip. For instance, if I pedal at 200 watts at a reasonable pace and then wind up my cadence and power, the faster I pedal the lower the watts continually progress. Therefore, even though...

trainer mode-data dropouts and inaccurate watts
I have just attempted a training session on my rollers and trainer mode is consistently dropping power down to about 50 watts and will not display any watts above 200 watts, despite pedalling as hard as I can. No changes have been made to by ibike whatsover. Furthermore it was working fine when I we...

Re: RWS Modification Question
Yeah, I'm thinking of something like that. Possibly a a short S-bend, Z-bend or installation as per existing RWS installation under the aero wing, but with aluminium. I might also see If I have an old bicycle pump hose attachment and experiment with the rubber insert. There is still the issue though...

Re: RWS Modification Question
I'm thinking of putting something together like this, great idea!, but with aluminium as rruff suggested. Does anyone have any thoughts on giving the pipe some stability, besides the use of cable ties?- I'm pretty sure there is going to be some bouncing around and therefore likely to affect the wind...

Re: An important new cycling measurement: Effort Speed
Yeah there are a number of other online applications too, but if our metrics used for such calculations are already stored in the ibike software, why not have this feature rather than cut and paste metrics to other software.

Re: An important new cycling measurement: Effort Speed
That does sound useful, however I have no access to such apps as I don't use an iPhone or the idash. However, I thought its incorporation in the ibike software would be helpful particularly in terms of planning for time trials over various courses. As I mentioned many of the metrics in the ibike sof...

Re: An important new cycling measurement: Effort Speed
Another feature that would be good to incorporate in the ibike software would be the ability to determine the required speed and power to travel a certain distance within a give time frame. I know these sorts of calculators are available on certain websites, analyticcycling to name but one, but it w...

Re: Firmware 4.25-under reporting watts-tilt issue
My Northern neigbour I think was absolutely correct on the issue of the tape affecting the pressure in the ibike. Before riding to work this morning I removed the gaffer tape-problem solved. The readings in the unit were as they should be. I think this just goes to show how sensitive these gizmo's a...

Re: Firmware 4.25-under reporting watts-tilt issue
I'm just thinking, and I don't know why I didn't consider it sooner as a possible effect on my windscaling, but in the past week I have placed some gaffer tape along both the side edges of the ibike unit (for rain protection). The tape ends at about 3-5 millimetres from the entry to the windport on ...

Hi Guys, Thanks for your suggestions. It is strange that I should now need to do a a new cal ride and numerous coastdowns. Re: Firmware 4.25-under reporting watts-tilt issue
I've just been for a loop around the Bay to see whether tilt calibrations and wind offsets performed at home have had any effect. But no. Again downloading the file I have -16 average ground speed. Whilst on the ride too I gunned it up to about about 46km an hour into a head wind. The reading on the...

Re: Firmware 4.25-under reporting watts-tilt issue
Ok, thanks John. It did just seem strange that after updating the tilt calibration was off despite setting it prior to training (in addition to setting start elevation and doing the wind offset). Also for the ride yesterday I recorded a -16 average ground wind speed when I downloaded the file.

Firmware 4.25-under reporting watts-tilt issue
Since updating my ibike to firmware 4.25 and inserting a new battery on Friday evening the unit over the weekend consistently has under reported watts on the flats.I know this to be so because I train on the same piece of road, and at about 45km/h I should be doing approx 370 watts and not 80-90 wat...

Re: Nashbar Reduced Radius Rollers
I have the latest version of the ibike software, and the coefficients (or speed/power curves) listed are for e-motion and Kreitler rollers. I would not use these settings for your rollers. On several occasions I have contacted the manufacturers directly and they have been more than happy to supply t...

Re: ibike on e-motion rollers
Thanks very much mate for taking the time to put that together. The figures do seem to correlate quite closely. I'm more of Thor Hushovd's type build: 84 kg, so It looks like at my weight +bike weight of 7kg I can approximately attain the required 300 watts at about 21.9 mph on resistance level 1, s...

Re: ibike on e-motion rollers
Plugging in the numbers from the link that smhagger707 posted, it looks like for resistance level 1 the ibike's calculation of the speed/power curve is almost spot on with the numbers experienced with a powertap. ibike on e-motion rollers
I have a set of e-motion rollers on order and I was wondering what sort of experiences people were having training with power (with the ibike) on them. I have read several post here about tyre pressure, rider weight etc affecting the accuracy of the speed/power curve compared to riding outdoors. I h...

Yeah, I didn't read any real technological assessment or evaluation in that article. I suppose it just goes to show though that on Twitter, Facebook, and in some occupations, you can pretty much pretend to be whatever you want to be, even a 'tech writer'.

It would also depend on the lighting system you use and where it is positioned. I predominantly use a helmet mounted ay up system with a narrow beam for early morning power training rides. Whilst the beam throws out light for a considerable distance the ambient light is also sufficient to casually g...
