Lap analysis

Post by flysplat »

Hi John, me again.

I've just done a ride recording 15 laps on my Garmin. (there are a couple where I double pressed and two where I was riding to the start of the lap.)

I used "Get Gps Data From Activity File" using the fit file from either Garmin or Strava and the map appears in Velocomp Aero.

I expected to see the lap times summarised in the bottom left of the new Velocomp Aero app but all I get is one lap showing the total ride time, total distance and average power for the ride.

The only file that I can get to import gps data for is the fit file from my Garmin, either directly from the Garmin device of through Garmin Connect, or from Strava (export original). Both contain the lap data and I can view this in Garmin Connect and Strava. Why isn't it appearing in Velocomp Aero?

I realise I'm using an old, old meter so won't get CdA but I did thought the lap data would show.

I've attached the ride file and fit file in zip format if that helps.

What am I doing wrong to stop the lap data appearing?

Thanks
Mark

Your unit is 10 years old and its firmware does not support CdA features, including lap recording.

Sorry :-(

My Garmin Edge 520 has Lap data and I merge the activity.fit files using Aero.
Can the garmin lap points be applied to the Aero data?
I realize that I am using a Newton (continues to work great) but seems to me that it should be possible to note the lap points from the garmin similar to how gps location data is merged.

Hi John,

When I Merge a gpx or fit file in Isaac the laps are shown in the bottom left of the screen but not in Aero.
It shows total distance, lap time, speed and watts.
I know I can't get CdA but data that is given is useful.

You can mark laps in VA. Here is how to do it:

1) Open the file. Since you also have a .FIT file, merge it into your VA file by dragging/dropping it over the graph. Save the combined file.

2) Click on the graph wherever you would like to mark a lap. A yellow vertical line will appear (in this case around 43:03):

3) In the Lap tab place your cursor over one of the laps. It will be highlighted in blue

4) With your cursor over the highlighted lap, right click on it. You will see this:

5) Click to accept. Your new lap will be added (in this example, lap 19):

6) Repeat this process for your entire ride file, wherever you would like lap markers.

7). When you're finished save the marked file. The lap markers will be saved in your updated file.

I did your complete ride; marked file attached. REMEMBER: if you have a Newton you can create lap markers during your rides, simply by press-holding the left button.
