Initial pairing and serial number

I'm wondering if the lack of a serial number in my iBike could be affecting my ability to pair the wireless sensors.
(BTW- I have a really early version of the iBike and just got the wireless mount)
Here's what happens:
In the iBike 2 software, under the Device/get S/N and FW version tab, my S/N is listed as 00-00-00-etc. Is it poss cuz of the version of iBike i have that that's an accurate S/N?
After following the instructions to the letter, I'm completely stumped. I've also set up a friend's wireless mount (with a brand new iBike) previous to this, so I know I'm able to follow the directions to the letter.
Another possible prob is a bad connection to my older iBike head and the new wireless HB mount (the "wireless fail" message appears in <20 sec and the connection is listed as a poss prob for failure).
any help or suggestions are appreciated!
