hello all,

its my first post here and not the last. im new at power and every excited. i have a ipro gen 3 without a USB...instead i got 2 mounts(sensors) ok, i have a few questions...

1. how important is it to upgrade firmware? do you see an improvement in performance if you do?
2. i need a USB in order to get firmware but is it very helpful to get data on the computer and analyze it? dumb question i know but i got a good deal on this ipro so i want to know if its necessary.
3. the mount i have goes on the handle bar, and not the stem...is this correct? i thought it was supposed to mount in the middle of your bike..(is that a separate product i need to purchase?)

thank you forum for your time. i thank you all in advance for any help!

1 - firmware upgrades are just that - upgrades or bug fixes. Would you leave Windows running without them?
2 - The USB is the transfer vehicle for data from the iBike to the computer via the computer software available from the CD that comes with the iBike and also updates at velocomp - www.ibikesports.com. You can also use this to analyze ride data, store rides and also profiles - so that you can have several profiles for different riding conditions or bike/equipment combinations.
3 - A handlebar mount works just fine in most cases - just mount it as close to the stem as is feasible. Some choose to use a stem mount - sometimes because the handlebar is not a round tube, but is of the wing variety. You can run into the same issue with the stem as not all stems are round.

If you got this from a second source and do not have the essentials, you may very well have to buy a few more accessories in order to take full advantage of all that the iBike Pro has to offer.

i have an additional question..about the USB ...if i have 2 extra mount/sensors... can i use one and modify that and wire up to a usb piece? i'm not to sure about the wiring characters but if its similar to a computer mouse USB can that be linked when i cut it?

i only ask this because i hear you can do this to a sensor if i want to do stationary training.. i called john and he said it was possible. i didnt ask if it was possible to convert the mount into a USB though...

thanks for any further help/suggestions!

Cure -

I think you need to get details from John. It is not really clear to me what you have on hand. The USB mount looks a lot like the handlebar mount but also has a USB cable/dongle coming out of it to plug into a USB port on your computer.

Really can't help more - if nothing else download the manual for the iBike and also 3.06 of the computer software.

Cure,

You cannot modify a regular mount to be USB. The USB mount has a NI chip or chipset in it that converts serial to USB as the iBike itself talks serially.
The iBike pro should have shipped with a USB dongle, the iSport does not. If Velocomp did not package the right stuff (assuming you got a new unit and all), I am sure they will swap the items promptly.

Yup, You definitely need the USB adapter! If you ride in the rain any you might consider the remote wind sensor while at it (combine your shipping and save a little). Check if you need anything else on the parts list, for example your battery door should not be real loose, might you need more double sided sticky stuff, etc.

A new ride - starts a new recording - hold the center button until reset ride shows - then press again - the screen will flash a few times - the recording of a new ride starts.

For manuals -
