iBike suitable for night rides?

Hi,

I´ve instaled Ibike software on my PC to have acess to the onwners manuals and read it, but I still have some questions that I didn´t saw on them ( I´ve read IBike 2 but i´m going to buy GenIII iAero):

Sometimes in the year I ride a lot at night - I have some very powerful lupine lights and ride on the complete darkness for milles, and for me its important to be hable to see the screen info every now an then so my first question is:
Does iBike has a backscreen light?

On my actual bike computer - Polar S725x - I always define a target range and the unit has a bellow the target sound and over the target sound - the same when doing intervals. During the day is great because you can focus on the road and traffic and during the night its the only way to know where you stand. I`ve read here on the Forum that in GenIII will be possible to set a range also. So my second question is:
Does IBike has sound alarmes?

There is no backlight, or sound in an IBike/iAero as yet. If you want to view ours at night, you need to mount an external side light on the handlebars next to the IAero. Sigma makes one, I read it isn't very efficient and I am not sure the geometry would be compatable.

I am glad someone else would like to see these features on the Iaero and ibike.

You do a 20 minute test, and there are intervals built in, based on your average watts and your fitness level, that will tell you what wattage to hold and for how long. It takes the guesswork out of wattage training.

I had the same problem during our winter here in Melbourne. I found a cheap solution was to hang a flashie from my helmet chin strap. I worked a treat. I looked like a clown but it worked.
On another note, I never thought I would see America elect a black man. I am both amazed and heartened. I wonder if Obama rides?

well, I have a coach, so I always know what targets I need to achive. My main problem is out to see on a night ride where i satnd on those targets. has I told I ride on the country side roads, only with my bike light. no roads lights at all.

Mdc and alback ways to try to fix are interesting, but not a very practical solution...

Even during the day I prefer watch the limits instead of seeing them because of the traffic, roads, etc, etc.

I must say its a bit disapointing - backlight is a comon function on even a 20 € computer, and sound is also comun on a computer with HR.
I suppose due to the battery consumation in iBike its no possible to have this function yet, but its a "must have"

The other solution (bandaid) is if you have an Edge 705 you can setup the intervals with the controlling factor being power. These can be setup in the unit, will give sound warnings and you can control how long the screen is lit for. Because of the nature of the 705 it lags behind by a few seconds but all in all it works pretty well for interval purposes.

BTW if you use SportTracks, you can create the workouts there and transfer them to the 705.

While I have seen adds for bike specific, I purchased a strap on LED light at Walmart and the straps can be used through the vents on my helmet just fine. The light is enough to fill in on the road some for my headlight and if I look at the iBike, then I can see it or whatever else I look at. The Walmart one uses AAA batteries, which I like.

Helmet lights... try 'Ay Up' lights, just type it in on your browser. I've been using them for 24hr events this season, one of my team mates has been consistent in taking the fastest overall time out of all the teams in the night in most uk events, awesome value, weight performance etc! I''m now using them for my winter night training (UK winters suck!!) various options on the kit.

I use a NiteRider Storm. Raced the 24 Hours of Moab with it and it was awesome! But it is 4 or 5 years old, so that model is no longer available. And it is for lighting up the entire universe, not just for viewing the cyclocomputer. A camping light hung around the neck should do the trick for computer viewing.

Excel Sports has a computer light by Sigma in their catalog for $8.95. Can't find it on their web site, though. You could call them - 800.627.6664.

I am using the small Knog Frog http://www.knog.com.au, they are cheap, waterproof and easy to attach to your helmet. Best of all though they use a pair CR2032's so you have somewhere to use up all your old iBike batteries once they get below 2.75 volts.
