Why change from iPro to Dash?

Post by acevans »

I have an iPro Gen III and am very happy with it. I am a current iPhone user as well. Has anyone upgraded to the Dash + Power from the iPro? Did you find it worth the cost? Wondering if the Dash features make it worth the change.

Thanks!

I had a iAero Gen III and upgraded to iPhone. My main reason was to safely transport my iphone. I feel much safer with my iPhone in the iBike "phone booth" than in my back jersey pocket. Replacing my iPhone before my 2-year contract is up will cost $400+. In my iAero, I had had just about all the data that I have in my Dash, but it is easier to see and I don't have to 4 or 5 buttons to get to the info I want. I set the metrics I want to see. The customize nature is iPhone app is great and will only get better with future app updates.

Pros:
- safe place for iphone
- easy to read screen
- customizable metrics on screen
- works better in cold weather

Cons:
- pricey (but not compared to direct force) / you can sell your iPro on eBay
- does not do everything I want it to do (map custom routes, audio signals, show map data in iBike software, make custom intervals, have calendar feature) but I expect these things and more will come with time
- it is really big compared to iPro; a few guys I ride with go a chuckle regarding its size "Hey, you gonna watch a movie on that during this ride!" -- but they always ask for my data because I have it :D
- temperature readings are worthless on Dash -- I usually have a 20 F error on my Dash because the iPhone is a big heat generator

One of the most significant reasons for me is the fact that you can forget about leaving your ipro, iaero unit outside to acclimatise to the outdoor weather as the iDash sensors are much improved and not as sensitive to weather changes as the ipro and iaero units.

Another big plus is the user customisable and huge viewing area that allows me to just about view about every useful metric available when riding.

If you're worried about weight and bulkiness - then stay with the ipro and iaero. ;)

Weight? You're carrying your phone and an iBike with wireless head anyways. The increase in weight is really minimal when you consider that you're only adding the phonebooth.

Bulky? Yup, it take a bit of getting used to. However once you see all it does, you don't think about it.
