Phantom data

Post by babyboomer »

I went for a ride today, December 12, between noon and 5:00 PM Pacific time. The excursion included three calibration rides. When I uploaded the ride files from the Newton, I didn't find a single one with today's date. I'm not even finding times that coincide with today's ride. When I check the date in the Newton, it appears to be correct. I'm figuring that the ride was not recorded, or the files are getting signed with the wrong date and time. I have attached the ride files. I have good reason to believe they're from today's ride because the Newton was empty before I started. If these are the right files, I know there's a way to fix the dates and times, but I'd still like to know why this is happening.

By the way, it was not 41 degrees at 2:00 PM in San Diego California, but that's one of the clues that these might be today's files. I remember hitting the enviro button during the ride and noticing that it said 43 degrees.

Click the Enviro button on your Newton and check to be certain the date and time in it is correct.

By the way, I meant to say that I went for a ride on December 8.

Yes, the date and time are correct. On the way to the date and time display I stumbled across and got stuck in a Crd0 screen. It toggled between 0 and 1. Can you tell me what that is? I think I was in Train mode. I want to make sure I didn't make a change that I didn't want to.

If these are the calibration rides from Saturday I gotta say that, when compared to weather.com data, the wind gauge was spot on - eight miles per hour! At this point I'm thinkin' that these are the right files. We've just gotta figure out what's going on with the dates.

I strongly suspect your ride files are correct, and that the date/time in your Newton was wrong for these particular files. It may be that, when you connected the Newton to Isaac, one of the commands you used updated the date/time.

I would use these files as valid.

Last night I completed an indoor session on my rollers. Afterwards I downloaded the ride file. That date and time were correct. Then I got a notification that a firmware upgrade was available. I applied it. I checked the date and time again. They were still correct. The only other thing I can think of that might reset the date and time is a hard reset - which I've probably done in the last few weeks. If a hard reset is resetting the date and time, does it revert to the date and time of the last firmware version? That could explain a lot of things.

I agree that these files bear a striking resemblance to the ride I did on Saturday. In particular, I just wanted to be sure that the calibration rides were from the ones I conducted on that day. I'm confident that they are.

I have another question about what to do with the calibration ride after I've completed it. I don't know whether it's applied automatically, or whether I have to apply it manually. Typically I load it into Isaac and do an analyze wind and accept the results of that analysis.
