USB Data computer mount - super tight

Post by wellmt »

Any GenIII owners have the problem that the iBike computer mount is sometimes ridiculously hard to remove from the USB data cable mount? On the bikes it's fine.

In fact it's so tight that I think this has actually what caused my GenIII to break.

I think it's the additional nylon ring in the iBike underside that causes this. Why is it there?

I don't remember having problems with tilt on the GenII.

(edit: just discovered the aformentioned nylon ring has a crinkled maybe causing the problem)

The wireless bike mount was loose. the USB is tight or snug. They added the nylon gasket to snug up the bike mount. If your gasket is messed up - contact John. When you do replace it clean the surface very thoroughly and have no lubricants, otherwise the gasket will just come off easily. Then there was a period of time where the case was too snug and several of us were getting cracks around the base of the iBike.

I suspect the gasket is just a mil or two too thick and so it is snug on the USB mount. Don't force the twist onto the USB - you will only create more grief. It seems to loosen up after several dozen times you mount it.

I've already had the cracked base problem. It may well be my fault then, as I tried some lubrication to prevent his issue. That's probably what's caused the problem. Thanks Tom.

I am using my iAero Gen III for the first time this week, I purchased it last year. I have the same problem with the USB Data mount - really tight to the point that it could break the mount connection. What was found to be the solution for this?

You won't break the mount. Don't worry. It will loosen up a bit after a few usages.

I had exactly the same problems when I first got this system.

I sprayed silicone lubricant spray on a rag and carefully lightly wiped it around the part on the USB mount where it locks onto the ibike unit. That seemed to have helped getting it off - otherwise it was way too tight.

Careful with the silicone spray; that can cause the adhesive on the clear gasket mounted to the grey to dissolve. If that happens the gasket will fall off.

Thank you for the replies, is there a specific lubricant that will not affect the adhesive on the clear gasket?

Why does the Gen3 have the problem with the USB Data mount, and not with the mount on my bike stem?

Well, there no longer a tight issue, I tried a couple of times on and off after your reply - the gasket crumpled at one of the points where the data USB digs in and it released from the Gen3.

Any recommendations on how to re-apply the gasket, it is a little deformed where it is crumpled. Is it necessary?
