Coast Downs
I always do my coast downs on a particular stretch of road, then turn around, make my way back to the same starting point and do the next one etc etc. Is there any reason why I couldn't just do a coast down every time I come to a suitable bit of road while out on a ride? That way I would get a variety of surfaces on which to create an average rolling resistance profile.
Re: Coast Downs
As long as you don't mind messing up your data for that ride, I don't see any reason not to.

That should work fine. Here's a few things to be careful of:philatlondon wrote:I always do my coast downs on a particular stretch of road, then turn around, make my way back to the same starting point and do the next one etc etc. Is there any reason why I couldn't just do a coast down every time I come to a suitable bit of road while out on a ride? * More riding between coastdowns means more chance that your tilt cal might be knocked out by a big bump.
* If temperatures are cool and change significantly from your first coastdown to your last (e.g., riding near sunrise or sunset), your wind offset cal might not be valid by the time you finish.
* In the window for downloading & processing calibration rides, the software might not correctly guess which ride file is the 4 mi out&back ride so be sure to double-check that setting.
