PowerPod FW 622 has been released
PowerPod FW 622 has been released
Time to update your PP firmware!
• Corrects an issue with TT bikes where reported watts might be too high
• Corrects an issue with Fat Bikes where rolling resistance might be too low
You can access this firmware through the Isaac command "Device/Check Online for Firmware Update..."

Hmmm.
Just tried flashing the latest firmware onto my PowerPod. Said it was loading, progress bar got to the very end. Then, an error popped up saying Error Loading.
Following that, the PowerPod appears to be completely unresponsive.
Tried doing a reset by holding the button down for 10+ seconds. Nothing. No lights come on when it is plugged in to either the PC or just a charging plug.
Looks dead. Again.

It sounds like your FW upload failed. If so your PP is dead.

What do you mean by 'Corrects an issue with TT bikes where reported watts might be too high'.Velocomp wrote:Time to update your PP firmware!

I have a TT profile set up with a CdA value of 0.27 m^2 for when I am riding TTs (with corresponding 'Aero' and 'Wind Scaling' values of 0.403 and 1.494 respectively).
What does the latest FW correct?
Re: PowerPod FW 622 has been released
The FW update adjusts the rough-road detection algorithm so that it does not over-react when TT bikes are riding on rough roads.

How does the PP know that you are riding a TT bike as opposed to any other bike? Would the PP not over-react when other bikes on rough ground too?Velocomp wrote:The FW update adjusts the rough-road detection algorithm so that it does not over-react when TT bikes are riding on rough roads.
Generally I don’t like to update FW unnecessarily as it can just introduce new bugs, or brick units like above!
I have attached a ride file from a TT I did yesterday, would the new FW update affect this ride?

1) We don't disclose how we implement our technology
2) I appreciate your conservatism. It's up to you whether or not you update FW; just be aware that, if you don't, you cannot get the potential benefits of doing so
3) Your ride file does not show evidence of excessive road vibration; your watts are fine.

Thanks for taking the time to look over the file and I understand that your position RE. disclosure etc.Velocomp wrote:1) We don't disclose how we implement our technology

I think given that the TTs I do are on general good surfaces, such as the one attached, and this appears fine in my case I will skip this update for now, but keep an eye on it and maybe update in the future…

Re: PowerPod FW 622 has been released
John,
I have had instances where going over very rough road, I have seem large power spikes (~2,000W). This is on a road bike. Would that also be solved with this firmware?
Thanks,
Morten

No. Those kinds of wattage spikes would have nothing to do with FW algorithms. More likely that would be about frame flexing or some other mount problem.
