5s power
Hi,
What is the best setting for most accurate 5s power? Did a fitness test today to check progression in Xert. The test included some standing sprints. Please see attached file. Measured 5s max power of 1485.6W. That seems quite high. Does it make sense? Should I change something to get better accuracy? The max power is used in Xert for adjusting the power-duration model.
Thanks,
Morten

Re: 5s power
I looked at your ride file.
I have no reason to disbelieve PP readings.
As you did your 5 sprints, each one was better than the previous one. On your final sprint everything worked perfectly.
In a way this is my problem with Xert; inferring performance on the basis of a single 5s sprint seems problematic to me. Your other sprints were consistently about 1200-1300 watts. This seems more representative of what you can do on a repeatable basis.

John,
so what is your best practices recommendation for using PowerPod with Xert? No averaging, dynamic, 1s, ...??

I have not used Xert so I do not know what assumptions it makes. I also don't know how PP data is uploaded into Xert; is it through your Garmin?

John,
Yes, my Garmin Edge 520 syncs with Garmin Connect which then syncs with Xert, Strava, and Trainingpeaks (dropping Trainingpeaks when subscription runs out). Really love Xert. The amount of analytics and predictability is fantastic. I have attached a screen shot from a recent ride. You see how my maximum power declines until no more is left in the tank. I use it for training and racing.

Re: 5s power
John,
So, what do you think? What type of power averaging would work best for PowerPod, Edge 520 and Xert?
Thanks,
Morten

Re: 5s power
It looks like Xert is analyzing your files for various levels of power, at various levels of time effort.
If that is the case I'd set PP to 3 second averaging or less. You will likely see jumpier numbers on your Garmin (more difficult to hold interval levels) but the data going into Xert will be processed less.

Re: 5s power
John,
Thanks! I am running with no averaging on PowerPod and 3s on my Garmin to stabilize the power a little bit. That seems to be in line with your recommendation.
Thanks,
Morten
