Very High Power Figures at the Start of the Ride
Very High Power Figures at the Start of the Ride
Hi can someone help , sorry if this has already been answered but i could not see anywhere an answer to this specific problem , my powerpod is on my Specialised roubaix , its on normal handlebars on a solid Garmin go pro mount up near the stem ,
when i ride i seem to get really high power figures very early on in the ride then its settles down quickly and is perfect , these power figures seem to be putting my averages out ?
thanks to anyone that can help
Nick

Re: Very High Power Figures at the Start of the Ride
When you attach PP to your bike, before tightening the GoPro bolt gently push on PP from the top, rotating your PP until it hits the stop of the mount. This puts your PowerPod in the same rotational position for each ride. Tighten the bolt.
When the mounting angle changes from ride to ride, you'll get high (or possibly low) watts for the first 8 minutes, while PP recalibrate itself. After that, things are fine.
You can "fix" the problem for the first 8 minutes in Isaac, using the "Analyze/Analyze Route..." feature.
By the way: you have a GREAT PowerStroke!

Thanks John
great feedback , i will try doing that next time.
its a great product , everyone i show it too is sceptical of how it works , i now respond when they ask how its work by saying "witchcraft" ! ,
i have some garmin Vectors coming for a new Tarmac i have purchased. so will try the comparison feature, how is it for mountain bikes ? i MTB a lot and would love it to work on there but i did try and got some crazy readings !
great product BTW.

We had a great review of our product that started with that quote...
When using PP with MTB, make sure you lock-up the front fork, then let PP stabilize for the first 8 minutes. Then you will get solid readings.

Re: Very High Power Figures at the Start of the Ride
Similar to the OP, I was on a ride last night where my first piece of the ride was recording power in the 2000's or 3000's. This happened after the 8 min mark too which was odd. I've since corrected the file, but why would it produce such high figures? In my case, I had no removed the powerpod and was just going for a next ride.
Re: Very High Power Figures at the Start of the Ride
Hmm...please post a .ibr file from Isaac and we will figure out what is going on.

Re: Very High Power Figures at the Start of the Ride
Unfortunately, I have already corrected the file.
Next time it happens, I'll come back to you. It's the second time I've had spikes in the 1000's, both now corrected.

Post the ride file anyhow. I can undo the corrections

Re: Very High Power Figures at the Start of the Ride
Your PP angle was "off" at the beginning of the ride. The PP self-corrected after 8 minutes
I removed your corrections with the "Analyze/Return to Original Download" command.
When attaching your PP to your mount, gently rotate your PP forward until it hits the mount stop. Then, tighten the screw. If you do this consistently you will not have this level of problem with your first 8 minutes of the ride.

Re: Very High Power Figures at the Start of the Ride
Oddly enough, I did that rotation forward before I started out. I wonder did it get knocked back as I was getting ready.
Thanks for the analysis
Appreciate it.

Re: Very High Power Figures at the Start of the Ride
I had the same problem again on a recent ride. File is attached.
I did as you said, tilted it forward until it stopped, but power was really high until PP sorted it out. Problem is, this huge power spike is messing up my stats that end up on Garmin connect and Strava. I can correct it after of course, but it's not ideal.
Should it spike like this every time I go out? Actually, this has only recently started happening and nothing much has changed in my set up.
