PowerPod: Speed Sensor Loosing Contact

Hi

I just bought the PowerPod and after 3 days, I am still not able to fully calibrate the powerpod.

I have read every bit of your published troubleshooting guides and have read several forums with help.

I have a brand new Giant TCR bike with the speed/cadence RideSense. I have even replaced the 2032 battery in the RideSense. I have a Garmin 510 as well in working order.

My garmin can read and connects to both the cadence and speed sensors while I am standing and spinning the cranks/wheels. After holding down the PowerPod button for 4 seconds, the PP sometimes is able to pair up with the speed senor. It seems to occur only after I do a HARD reset to the PP. Clue: It takes a lot of effort for the PP to pair with the sensor. Note, that my cadence and speed readings on the Garmin are always present as I lift the back wheel and spin.

After eventually pairing the speed sensor after lifting the back wheel, I pair the Garmin, Power Ant+ with the PP.

I go for a 5+ minute ride and when the yellow light starts blinking, I can see the POWER go up 1,2,3,4,5 ish. Then the yellow light goes away and the power goes back down to 0. After a 30 seconds or so, the flashing yellow light will return and I will once again see 1,2,3,4,5ish power, but as soon as the yellow light goes away, the power goes back to zero. This will happen a few times but never goes above 5-8ish.

I have read online that the speed sensor might be losing contact with the PP and the yellow light goes away and the power goes to 0.

I then try to re-pair the speed sensor and it doesn't want to pair.

Everything is fully charged. My garmin and the PP. Like I stated above, my Garmin is seeing the cadence and speed while I am standing as I spin the crank arms and wheels. I am 100% sure my Garmin is connected to the RideSence and it is working perfectly. There is never an issue with the Garmin not reading and communicating with the Cadence/Speed Sensor.

I am STUMPED as to why the PP is having a very difficult time pairing with the speed sensor and if it does, which is rare, it only lasts for about a minute.

Nothing is blocking the air port.

PLEASE HELP.

I have even been to my LBS and replaced the magnets. Same issues. I have even replaced the RideSense battery with a brand new 2032 battery. Same issues.

Thanks in advance

Sorry you hare having problems.

I have personally used a Giant bike with the RideSense sensor, without problems. That said, we know it has a somewhat weak transmitter. Depending on where your PowerPod is located and where you sit on the bike, your body can absorb a lot of the signal the sensor emits. That would cause the intermittent operation you are experiencing.

Please email me at jhamann@velocomp.com and I will give you some next steps.

Hey John

I sent you an email a few days as requested.

I haven't heard back from you. Did you get my email?

I still don't have a working Powerpod. This is beyond frustrating.

Please help

John,

Was there any workarounds or suggestions you had for this issue?

I have just received my powerpod and am experiencing similar symptoms with difficulties connecting and calibrating. My testing suggests it is also a weak signal from my giant ridesense on my propel.

I've already done all the usual troubleshooting like changing batteries and confirming the sensors are working with my garmin head unit. My powerpod also can connect and start the 5m calibration if I remove it from its out-front mount and hold it closer to the giant ridesense unit.

Any tips are appreciated.

Jarrad

Sadly, some bike sensors are better than others. We have seen enough troubles with the Ridesense sensor that we no longer recommend it.

The best solution is to get a magnet less sensor; Wahoo and Garmin make them. These will work perfectly.
