Calibration

A couple of questions:

1/ When I removed the PowerPod from my bike to hook up to my laptop, I am sure I put it back on the bike at the same angle as before, but it still had the 8 minutes of crazy readings, which really skews my figures for the whole ride. Does it has to be in an absolutely precise location, as in to the millimetre? I know the easiest thing is not to remove it at all, but on the occasions I have to, there is no very 'obvious' way of knowing if it is in the exact location as last time. If it clicked in somewhere it would be a lot easier.

2/ If I switch between bikes, will this always need the 8 minutes to settle down again, or if I did manage to put it in the exact correct location as last time I used the bike, should it be fine without this settling down period?

Cheers

Hopefully I'm not speaking out of turn here...

1. When you attach the PP to the bike, always push the rear of it down and the front of it up as far as it will go, before tightening the mount. The flat edge on the mounting lugs should then ensure that the device is always mounted at exactly the same angle each time.

2. As long as you follow this routine on each bike, so that the device is at the same angle as when it was calibrated, then I think the switch from one bike to the other should not result in a new 8 minute calibration cycle.

Thanks, I had read about how to ensure the same setting each time but I am struggling to locate the correct position. It doesn't seem intuitive. I push it, and it seems like it could keep going until it points towards the sky.

I do everything that is recommended to get the same position but my PowerPod very rarely skips the first 8min calibration.

I have just accepted that is one of the quirks of this device. For me it isn't a major issue as the first 10 to 15mins of my rides are warm ups.

If you want to correct the data for the first 8mins run the ride data through Issac. I do that for every ride because amongst other things the starting and ending elevations are rarely correct. When you do that Issac will work out what the power should have been for the first 8mins. I then copy the corrected data from the csv file to Golden Cheetah which is the program I use to track my training.
