Power seems far too high

Hi,

I've had the powerpod v4 for a few weeks now and it seems the power is too high. I usually have a pretty good gauge of my efforts and the numbers I'm getting with the powerpod seem way off. Could you take a look at some files and let me know what I need to change? I've attached a file from this past saturday, and it's saying my avg power was over 300 whereas my friends quarq was in the 180w range. We definitely didn't ride at a 300w avg. I know what that feels like for me and it was a much easier ride.

Thanks,

Please post images of your PP attached to your bike.

You have a problem with your speed sensor. It is very "noisy". What kind is it? Where is it attached? If it is a magnet less sensor it should be on your front hub.

I have the older garmin speed sensor that attaches to spoke. I’m attaching images of PP.

Also not sure what you mean by noisy? This ride we stopped a lot at lights etc so may not be the best? I can send other files if needed? thanks.

Sorry, I should have been clearer.

In the ride file graph, bike speed is the white line. It should be fairly smooth, but in your case you will see many spikes sticking up, above the normal bike speed. This is incorrect, and means your speed sensor is not working properly. Also, when the spikes point up (higher bike speed) this will falsely increase watts above normal.

It sounds like you are using an older Garmin combined speed/cadence sensor. These are not recommended (see our website). I suggest you purchase new magnet less Garmin sensors. Mount the speed sensor on your front hub, do a new pairing and cal ride, and all will be well.

Ok I’ll do that. Is the PP mounted correctly? Just want make sure I have that part right as well.

Thanks!

Yes, the mounting position looks fine.

I did a new cal ride with the new garmin 2 sensors. Can you check the cal ride and the ride after to see if everything looks ok?

Thanks,
