Need a Little Help

Post by pparkhu »

I need some assistance in getting my profile set up correctly on my PowerPod.

I have previously got my Profile 1 and 3 on my older two bikes successfully set up and calibrated where at the end of the ride the average watts are almost identical to what my Powertap says.

However, I am unable to get Profile 4 set up correctly. The watts are either way too low, like an average of 90-100, or high. I have checked the calibration function, I have even tweaked the numbers some myself based on my past experiences with setting up my iBike, Newton, and other two PowerPod profiles.

I have attached the latest ride so it can be reviewed.

This bike does have the out front mount, but I currently have it set up on Profile 4. Previously, I had it set for Profile 2 like the directions/manuals say to do; but I could never get the watts close to what they should be. They were always very low. Parts of the ride the watts would show ‘0’.

I am now on my third speed/cadence sensor trying to eliminate why I am getting so many zero watts while pedaling. The first combined sensor was a Garmin CSC-10. The second time I tried it was a separate speed and cadence sensor from when I used the Newton. I am currently using an iBike combined speed/candence sensor as I like the cleaner look. I tried setting up Profile 2 three different times; thinking there was something wrong, and then calibrating and tweaking the numbers; but the watts were always low. I tried so many wondering if the PowerPod was having issues getting the information about speed/cadence (I have been using two different Garmins (one getting watts from a Powertap, and one getting watts from the PowerPod), and they have been able to get this info from all the sensors I have tried). Just trying to make sure all variables are accounted for.

I also quit using Profile 2 as I could never get the PowerPod to find (switch to) one of my other two bikes after riding using Profile 2. I would hit the button and the green light would flash; but never find my other bikes. I would push the button 10 times and nothing. I could plug it into Isaac, send the Profile to the PowerPod and then it would find the bike, and I would have to redo this to get it back to Profile 2. I got tired of doing this. On Profile 4, I don’t have this issue, it always finds the bike I want to ride.

So, the profile I have attached is for Profile 4 and it does have an out front mount. I still have an old copy of Profile 2 if that needs to be sent.

What am I doing wrong? I pride myself on being able to figure things out from the instructions, the forums, and a little trial/error; but I am frustrated. With Profile 1 and 3, I am content with my watts on my Garmin; but just want my newer bike to work correctly.

For the ride on 11/16/16, the powertap shows an avg watts of 148. Isaac software is showing my avg watts to be 185; and the Garmin Edge that reads the PowerPod shows avg watts of 212.

Any help would be appreciated. My opportunities to ride outside are growing less and less. I would like to have this all taken care of so I can be ready to go next spring.

Let me know if you need anything else and thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Your wind readings are really weird, and you have some dropouts in your speed readings.

Please post images showing how your PP is mounted for profile 4.

I have attached a couple photos. Again this is for profile 4. I know the out front mount is suppose to be profile 2; but I was getting VERY low numbers from it. I assume the PowerPod is attached correctly. On profile 1 & 3 very accurate readings. Profile 2 and 4, weird power numbers.

Like I previously mentioned, I am not sure why I keep getting dropouts on my speed readings (is it the bike?). I have a very old separate speed and cadence sensor that I thought about trying, or just buying the new Garmin one (which pains me since I have others just laying around not being used). Strange how it happens on several of the speed/cadence sensors.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Happy Thanksgiving.
