Friction VS Aero
Ok more on the CDs…….. I noticed that there is a obvious give/take relationship between the Friction and Aero numbers. I have had Cds with high friction/Low Aero and the other way around. In the end does it make a difference in the total power readings other than where the watts are going? If my cda...

Re: Coast Downs and Wind Direction
I am using a slopes from 1-3%, just enough to slow me down, I have already tried using the "bowl" but even on a "bowl" I got crappy results and the only common thread was the cross winds. Also does anyone know why 4 miles was chosen as a cal ride? The reason why I ask is this. Wh...

Coast Downs and Wind Direction
Strangely my best coast downs (I define best by getting realistic/expected Cdas and Crrs) seem to come when I do the coast downs with a slight tailwind, yep a tail wind. The trick seems to be that the tail wind is light or less than the 8 mph coast down completion speed. This is the second time I ha...

Re: Unit Recovery After Rain
Yesterday I was a poor weather man and got caught in very windy/rainy 39 deg weather. I noticed that my watts seemed much lower than normal so I started poking around a bit through the display screens. What I found was my wind speed was very low and frequently dropped to zero. When I got home I was ...

Re: Temperature And Wind Offset
Thank You! Completely understood now. Duh on my part! 2 pascals computes to 4.1mph. The iBike is so much smarter than me
As usual your support is outstanding!

Re: Temperature And Wind Offset
That's an excellent description John but it still leaves me with one question. You say "Now, 2.0 pascals is NOT a lot of air pressure but if you look at your wind speed screen you'll see it corresponds to 4.1 mph. So, the easy conclusion is: "my reported wind speed is off by 4 mph and that...

Re: Temperature And Wind Offset
I am no expert but you may just want to take some time to observe how your units wind offset reacts to temperature. On a day you are not riding set the unit outside (preferably in the morning or evening when the temps swing) for at least 30 minutes to acclimate to temperature then do a wind offset i...

Re: Temperature And Wind Offset
To be clear I am very happy with the iBike. Every part of it from the product itself, the SW, and especially the customer service is first class. My electronic engineering background is getting the better of me and that is why you see all this stuff in these post. I only wish to understand it fully ...

Re: Temperature And Wind Offset
ok its me again...just found something that worked. I rode this evening and the offset dropped to -1.6 over a -10 deg drop in temperature which is no big deal. Immediately after my ride I used a gallon freezer bag and covered the ibike BUT MADE SURE to leave an open volume of air between the two por...

Re: Temperature And Wind Offset
Hey Russ I will try that. For now what I did is a little experiment and reprocessed the data. 1. Sent the iBike down to 39 deg and zeroed the offset replicating my ride from a day ago. The drift was very repeatable, by the time it got to 56 deg it was 3.7 which is within a few tenths of my ride. I d...

Re: Temperature And Wind Offset
Ok here is this mornings ride. Ibike starting temp 39 deg, offset performed in garage. Ibike finishing temp 56 deg. Offset is 3.5. in the garage and the ibike is reporting a 7mph wind. The ride was about 3 hours. I did 4 out/back wind scaling tests before and after the ride at the same location. The...

Re: Temperature And Wind Offset
I found this post from Coach Boyd on Oct 18th 2008 "I don't know how much I am allowed to divulge, but there has been a wind offset calibration done along all temperatures in the factory. This means if you start off at 40 degrees and it warms up to 80 degrees, your wind offset should change by ...

Temperature And Wind Offset
I have a new Ibike Aero with FW 3.08. I have been letting my Ibike stabilize at outdoor temps and getting very little wind offset drift. That being said all my rides to this point (this gizmo is new to me) have been in the part of the day where temperatures have stabilized. Here is the issue. Today ...

Re: Wind Scaling Numbers
It would be Avg ground wind. And for the record I did a new cal ride a few days ago and it was golden. Today I did two 2 mi out/back rides and then analyzed the results. I was off by 1 mph avg. I believe these to be great results since today wind was 20-30 mph and gusty.

What Exacty is "Friction"?
I understand that Aero is CDA*Wind Scaling
I have yet to find a good description of "Friction". How is this number derived? The reason why I ask is the friction number seems to have a very large dynamic range pre/post coastdowns.

Hey velocomp, I am confused about profiles.
I understand that the gen 3 head unit has 2 profiles for two bikes but I am confused on how this works in conjunction with the SW. I had a very bad profile in "profile 1" that essentially made me look like Alberto Contador. On the same bike I set up profile 2 and got great data. I did this...

Wind Scaling Numbers
Is a wind scaling value of 2.0 acceptable? I am getting very reasonable numbers with the scaling at 2.0. Aero: 0.668; Fric: 6.77 CdA: 0.333 m^2 Crr: 0.0043 I did two cal rides and they both had 2.0 for wind scaling. The cal ride was on a bike path with little or no wind, no cars etc. Should have bee...

Re: Sorry But Another Calibration/CD Question
Tom, The cal ride route I chose is a very flat, straight, and wind protected route. The coast downs I was going to do in my subdivision because there is a little "bowl" shaped area that seemed similar to what Coach Boyd recommended. Why would the surface make a difference? I thought the ca...

Sorry But Another Calibration/CD Question

Drag Caused By Clothing
This time of year in Chicago I can be in either in a short sleeve jersey or my full winter gear which of course increases my drag substantially. When making significant changes to riding apparel, besides the obvious weight difference I assume I would need to do some coast downs, but what about the 4...

Re: Weird PowerBar Display Behavior
Hey Russ I also have a KKRM (Pro Model) and I was wondering what your perception is of the indoor vs outdoor watts. After training with the KKRM and using the power curve (speed to watts conversion) I quickly discovered the benefits of training with power and that's why today I ordered an iBike Pro ...
