Auto Wind question

Post by rstrom »

The owners manual states that you're supposed to cup your hand over the wind port when activating the iBike at the start of each ride.

While I can't find it right now I know I have also seen a post in the forum that stated that you should not cup your hand over the wind port while it's doing the auto wind magic because it could cause " a swirling wind" around the port if I remember correctly.

Yesterday I started a ride in some pretty windy conditions and did not cover the wind port during the auto wind function and I think everything looked Ok as far as the numbers go.

Can you please explain what the auto wind is doing and whether or not we should cup our hand over the port or not?

Thanks,

Robert

With the auto wind, if it's a very calm day (or if you're in an enclosed garage, you shouldn't need to cup your hand over the wind port.

If you are outside, then cupping your hand over the wind port is better than trying to do the wind cal with wind entering the wind port. You do want to keep your hand still as moving it back and forth could cause the swirling wind, and pressing your finger on top of the wind port can also do that. You want to avoid pressing onto the wind port while doing the wind cal.

If it is windy, I find that standing with the wind at my back gives me a better wind offset reading.
