Just thought I'd post this as it might help someone, something similar has been mentioned before but maybe worth mentioning again...
If you are running a Combined Garmin Cadence/Speed Sensor (GSC10) with your iBike G and you experience a sudden and permanent loss of speed/power (but HRM is still working) then check that the sensor or wheel magnets have not moved. Even though the Garmin may still be receiving speed and cadence data from the sensor, for some reason the iBike is much more sensitive, the magnets have to be set-up much more accurate.
Garmin Combined Speed/Cadence Sensor and iBike
Re: Garmin Combined Speed/Cadence Sensor and iBike
This doesn't really make any sense since the magnet only triggers the GSC-10 to send a signal. Proximity to the magnets should have no impact on the strength of the signal being sent by the GSC-10 sensor. It sounds more like the battery in your GSC-10 is getting low and don't forget that the placement of the 705 and iBike on your handlebars will have an affect on reception, since many parts of your frame can interfere with the signal. Perhaps the 705 has a better line-of-sight for receiving the signal?wellmt wrote:Even though the Garmin may still be receiving speed and cadence data from the sensor, for some reason the iBike is much more sensitive, the magnets have to be set-up much more accurate.
Re: Garmin Combined Speed/Cadence Sensor and iBike
OK that sounds like a plausible explanation, thanks. I couldn't work out why magnets should make any difference either since it didn't make sense - but I was just glad to get it all working again as I'm new to the iBike. I'll replace the battery in the GSC10 for good measure, it must be a year.
Re: Garmin Combined Speed/Cadence Sensor and iBike
I had this exact issue a few days ago. On ride LOS and when I jiggered around the magnets I got a signal back. When I lost it again a while later I realized....dead battery in the Garmin. That is what it was.
