ibike Aero & Quarq
ibike Aero & Quarq
I was wondering if there was any way I could save the readings from the Quarq instead of using the iBike numbers. I am getting as much as a 25% difference at times and would like to just have the power meter numbers instead of the iBike interpretations of those numbers.
Re: ibike Aero & Quarq
If you are trying to open the file in Cyclingpeaks, you can open the csv file in excel, copy all the numbers from the "DFPM Power" column and paste them into the "Power" column. Save the file and then you can open it in Cyclingpeaks.
If you are getting a 25% error, then it sounds like there is something wrong with your profile or maybe you daily calibrations. Did you use the Quarq to make your profile with the iAero? With this system, you can just do the 4 mile out and back ride, no coastdowns required. I have done that and I get very agreeable data between my Quarq and iAero. If you would like I can help so that you get the same results, this way you can take advantage of all the cool drag coefficient features.

Re: ibike Aero & Quarq
I have had reading anywhere from 5% -25% off. I am going to go out today and do some more out and backs and see if I can get better numbers. I am pretty sure my iBike set up is accurate. I have had it since day one and am pretty familiar with all daily calibrations. I was hoping to not have to constantly check all that after I got the DFPM. Thanks for the Excel idea. For some reason my heart rate numbers get changed after the cut and paste of my power numbers? I will play with it some more.
Thanks again,
Gary

Were the averages for the whole ride (or even 5 minute segments of it) off by up to 25%?
I can understand if at any one point you see a difference of 25%, but you will find that with any two power meters you try. After riding with 3 power meters on my bike for a while, I learned that no two power meters will match up with each other all of the time. As long as they are tracking each other nicely, and you have repeatable numbers (ex. 300 watts is always 300 watts), that is much more important that making sure they always read withing 5 watts of each other.
If you want, you can send me a couple files at Boyd (at) totalcyclist dot com and I will take a look at the comparison between the two files and let you know if I see anything out of the ordinary.
