Magnet and Cadence Sensor *cool idea*

Post by iamracerexx »

So, I went for a ride and had no power reading? I couldn't figure out why? I couldn't stop to check everything because I was with a fast moving group (didn't want to get dropped). A quick visual inspection of the sensors looked good? The problem would have to wait til I got back to the shop for a closer look. It turns out that the cadence sensor got moved/knocked and was out of range for the weak little magnet? I looked around the shop for the smallest and strongest magnet I could find. I tested 3 magnets to see which could lift a somewhat heavy metal object. I found a strong little round magnet that fit to the backside of my pedal and seats itself nicely within the crank/pedal opening. I tested the magnet and it works great from 15mm away from the sensor. I could hear the little sensor clicking when I passed the crank by the sensor. Since the magnet is stronger and the signal is stronger, the chance of this happening again is lower, I hope. Oh yeah, one less zipp tie too. Check out the pics.

Yep, been doing this setup for a while now, very clean. I use rare earth magnets for this.
