Gen III and Garmin sensors

Post by PrinceCarbon »

Hi,
I used to have an original iBike before all the enhancements, looks like alot of improvement has been made and I am considering a Gen III Aero in the new year.. I have a few questions though regarding setting up the unit...

First off..I will admit..I am a clean routing, I HATE sensors on my bike person... so I am wondering if I can just purchase a Garmin speed/cadence sensor and use it with the ibike... I DO NOT own a Garmin head unit, and don't intend on purchasing one... I simply want ONE sensor on my bike and that is all... Can I use the ibike supplied heart monitor strap, or do I now need the Garmin strap as well since its running Garmin firmware??

Is what I want to do even possible, or do I need a Garmin unit to talk to the iBike... sorry not up on this ANT+ stuff... If I need a garmin chest strap I will purchase that and the sensors seperately..

Thanks alot!

Chris:

It sounds like you have a Gen I iBike with an iBike wireless mount and sensors.

If so, to use a Garmin speed/cadence sensor and iBike HR strap with your Gen III unit here is what you will need to do

1) purchase Gen III iAero upgrade

2) purchase Garmin key for your upgrade

3) remove iBike speed and cadence sensors from your bike

4) install Garmin combined speed/cadence sensor on your bike

Your Gen III iBike will work perfectly with this setup and your iBike HR strap will work too.
