Pairing iAero w/ Ant+Sport DFPM
Pairing iAero w/ Ant+Sport DFPM
When I pair my iAero with my Power Tap, should I take the iAero speed sensor that was previously installed on the front wheel and install it on the back wheel? That way, I can use the iAero/Power Tap on an indoor trainer and it will show speed? (Not that the speed is relevant) I read that I should take the iAero cadence sensor off the back wheel since the DFPM will provide cadence data. Yes/No? Just checking.

With the Power Tap, I would recommend keeping your iAero cadence sensor. That way you will get real cadence versus what the Power tap hub reports cadence to be.
And yeah, switch to the back wheel for the speed sensor. If speed isn't picked up for a while the unit will go to sleep.

Thanks Coach. I know that the Power Tap Hub doesn't report cadence as accurately as an externally mounted sensor.
Also, out of curiousity. Will my Power Tap cadence sensor work with iBike since it works off the same Ant+Sport protocol, or does Saris use some proprietary 2.4 GHz signal? How about my 2.4 Saris HR Monitor?
Thanks again. Rob

If it's Ant+ sport is could work. I would give it a try and let us know how it goes. I've been interested in trying a power tap wheel in conjunction with my iAero. I've been using a Quarq since June and it works really great, I really don't understand why people would choose a Garmin 705, especially with some of the problems they've been having. (non-zero average power, big lag time)

Re: Pairing iAero w/ Ant+Sport DFPM
Coach..paired my Power Tap SL+ w/ iBike today. Worked great on a short ride. Only one snafu I had with it was when I made a detour to my LBS...and discoverd erroneous readings on the way home. I was in the shop about 20 minutes but the iBike never fell asleep. Probably because I had the shop adjust the front deraileur and the rear wheel was spinning most of the time. On the way home I noticed whacky Power readings..like 1100 watts when I was riding down a slight hill. When I got home and reviewed the file, with the DFPM comparison, it looks like my Power Tap went to sleep and never woke up in the bike shop. Everything else, speed, cadence, heart rate, iBike power, etc. stayed on. Could my Power Tap REALLY have gone to sleep when the rest of the sensors stayed on? Should I have done a Pin Find before I started again for home?
I'll try the Power Tap sensors/HR monitor from Saris/Cycelops tomorrow on my ride..to see if they communicate. I'll let you know. Gotta go watch Stage 1 of the Tour of Cali. Cheers Rob
