I will be receiving my Ibike pro today and have been reading the manuals beforehand and I have a question regarding Coast Downs/Calibration rides

The manual states:

"The calibration ride is really easy: immediately after completing your coast downs just ride
for two miles at a leisurely pace, turn around, and ride back to the start. What could be
simpler?
HOW TO DO THE CALIBRATION RIDE
1) Complete 4-to-10 coast downs as described above.
2) Do NOT remove your iBike from the mount after completing the final coast
down
3) Ride IMMEDIATELY to the place where you will do your four mile ride"

What is the consequence of not doing a calibration ride "immediately" after the coast downs. The reason I ask is after reading the manuals and the forums my ideal locations for the cal ride and CDs are not in the same place. For example I was going to to the coast downs in my neighboorhood and then pop the bike in the car and drive to a bike path that is perfect for the calibration ride. Additionally I know that these two calibrations work together but can't the data be obtained independently?

If you have a good location for the cal ride - why not use the same for your CDs? It will only add a few more minutes to do 5-10 CDs. Is there any significant difference in windiness or surface between the two?

You should use whatever is typical of the surface you are going to be most riding as this will affect the Crr values on the iBike overall calibration. Chip seal will not lead to the same Crr as will a concrete pavement - or smooth asphalt, whichever is on your bike path.

The cal ride route I chose is a very flat, straight, and wind protected route. The coast downs I was going to do in my subdivision because there is a little "bowl" shaped area that seemed similar to what Coach Boyd recommended. Why would the surface make a difference? I thought the calibration ride is only about wind scaling and tilt. The coast downs factor in the rolling resistance and aero drag. Correct me if I am wrong?

Also in a previous post I put up on this forum "Drag Caused By Clothing" Boyd seemed to agree that the when I changed clothing only the coast downs would need to be repeated which also suggest that I could do the CD and Cal independently

You can do you cal ride at any time. Once you do your cal ride you will get your wind scaling and riding tilt. These numbers are stored into the iBike so you are good to go from then on.

If you have your spot for coastdowns you can just do the coastdowns in the different clothing. Make sure you remember your wind scaling and riding tilt numbers because then you can add them to your new aero and friction values. The last time you do a coastdown you will have a profile based only on your last coastdown that will be embedding into that ride file (riding home from the coastdowns). This profile will have the wind scaling and riding tilt numbers that are stored in the unit.
