I'm new to the world of power and am considering buying the ipro. Could someone help me understand how this unit measures wind? Specifically, what if I am riding in a 20 mph, 90 degree crosswind? Theoretically my headwind would be my bike speed alone, correct? But a strong crosswind does make a person work harder, so how does the ipro factor in a strong crosswind? Does it even detect it?

Also, what if I'm riding in a mist or even light rain. Will the unit accurately gauge wind if the air is saturated with moisture? Will the moisture enter the unit and cause problems? or how about dust?

The iPro with the latest firmware does a fantastic job of measuring crosswinds. You'll see positive wind speeds (although not like a headwind) when getting hit from the side. I ride along the oceanfront regularly so I can attest to its accuracy.

As far as mist or even light rain the iBike can handle it just fine. Even a steady rain is tolerable. A heavy downpour will affect the accuracy of the unit. However the iBike should just dry out and perform nicely the next time out.

My iAero does a pretty good job with most varieties of cross-winds under 20mph. It under-reports power in 90 degree side-winds--because, as Boyd explained several threads ago, the effective cda actually changes in a sidewind. It's not that the unit isn't measuring wind force accurately, but that the number in the equation is temporarily inaccurate.
