Absolute Wind Speed Question

I LOVE the new absolute windspeed feature. I can't envision why anyone would want to use it the other way, but it is nice to have lots of features to choose from!
I'm a little confused by the reading though. I was out on a recovery ride yesterday, in low-but-somewhat-gusty wind conditions and saw absolute wind readings with a "4" and the little arrow pointing ahead at one point. I took that to mean a 4mph headwind. I then turned around and rode the other way, and I saw two different things - the first was a "-4", and I'm pretty sure the arrow was still pointing forward. Then, I saw "4" (no minus sign), with the arrow pointing backward. I also briefly saw (more than once) both the minus sign and the little arrow pointing backward. Is there some particular wisdom to these indications, or is this just a little software artifact that I should ignore?
FWIW, I also love the NP, IF and TSS features that were added in 3.0.8. I'm in a tapering mode for an upcoming event, and am trying to keep my enthusiasm and peaking strength in check so that I don't overdo it. As I was out doing intervals today (and going way too hard due to the aforementioned training gains), I was able to check my TSS to determine when I was done with my work for the ride. (vs my normal habit of overdoing it, but not really knowing for sure until after its too late and I'm at home looking at stuff in WKO...
I even let my buddy take off up the final hill w/o me, as I dutifully did an easy spin up the hill, knowing that enough was enough. That was hard to do, but having the data available to me right then and there sort of eased the pain a little bit.
