first race using PowerPod

Post by Rusty Shackleford »

Morning.

i had a bit of a nightmare getting to my first race. amongst other things i ended up having to do a calibration moments before the race which left me racing round on 380W - beleive me, i wish this was correct. Going off turbo numbers, feel, etc etc, i think id have put out about 270 (my current ftp). ve tweaked Crr and input the value for my tyres (0.0026 but i used 0.0027 as a fudge) and Brought CdA down to 0.0022 (i do have quite a good position, see photo) i think and this gives me 277W for the hour. have i missed something with other values or is my tinkering good? powerpod is on a handlebar mount on a tt bike (see photo)

TIA

Michael

Edit - the course is a 2 loop course and it was a tailwind out, head wind back which you can see from the data

I adjusted your profile in two ways:

1) I used the Check Calibration feature to straighten out the wind scaling.

2) I put CdA at 0.22, which is about right for a solid TT ride position

3) I put Crr back at 0.0042 (this is correct for tubulars)

Your watts look very good with these tweaks. Corrected file and profile attached.

I'm not sure what happened prior to the race, but I would recommend against doing a new calibration just prior to a big race!

Thats great John,

amongst other things that went belly up, it turns out the combo sensor was paired for cadence but it was still looking for the normal speed sensor off the road bike and as i did the pairing process again, it went in to calibration mode...my own fault really.

thanks again
