Calibration issue

Hi all,

I've just purchased a PowerPod and I'm having trouble calibrating it.

I'm using a Garmin Edge 1000 with the cadence sensor & separate speed sensor on the front wheel.

I have everything sync'ed up and my Garmin is identifying the sensor all as expected.

However, when I try and calibrate I'm stuck on 0 watts and this doesn't change. I've followed these steps from another post on here;

1) Make sure you are not within 100 feet of any other bikes that have ANT+ sensors
2) Wake up your bike's speed sensor by spinning the crank and wheel
3) Press-hold the PowerPod button for 4 seconds; this will put it into pairing mode. Its light will flash green
4) After successful pairing the PP light will turn solid green. Then, after a bit of time the PP will go out
5) Click the PP button. It should show solid yellow
6) Do not ride your bike, but instead lift the rear wheel so you can spin it.
7) With your bike not moving down the road, spin your rear wheel. You should see speed in your Garmin window. If you don't see bike speed then something is wrong with your GSC-10
8) After a few seconds of spinning your bike wheel, your PowerPod light should start flashing yellow

When I start riding the light looks like it starts flashing orange/red but stays on 0 (I rode for around 20 minutes). If I press the button whilst riding, the light remains lit for around 10 seconds then changes to flashing again.

Thanks for your help

Chris

Are you absolutely sure you have paired your PowerPod to your Garmin? You have to do the Garmin pairing AFTER you've paired PowerPod to your speed/cadence sensor.

Spin your bike wheel to wake up the sensor. Click the PP button. Please report its color and also whether or not it flashes.

If the PP is ready to calibrate, its light will show solid yellow. Once you start riding it will show flashing yellow. Once calibration is complete it will turn off, and if you click the button it will show solid green.

Hi John.

I've got a solid yellow light showing after spinning the wheel and pressing the button.

Yes I'd paired the speed and cadence sensors with the the solid green light then the garmin.

I've had the flashing orange light as I was riding but it stayed on 0 on my Garmin.

Hmm...

Press-hold the PP button for about 10 seconds, until it goes out and then starts flashing. This does a Hard Reset of the PowerPod.

Make sure your Garmin settings are correct. You need to display total power (they have a lot of confusing settings on the 1000), and confirm that PP is paired to your Garmin.

With your bike at rest, spin the wheel where your speed sensor is mounted. You should see speed appear in your Garmin, and after about 10 seconds you should see the PP light flash yellow.

If you see PP change to flashing yellow, then wait 20 minutes for it to reset itself, then do a calibration ride.

If you see a flashing yellow light then PP is calibrating. After 5 minutes of flashing yellow it should go out. Then, when you click the button again it should be solid green.

If you see the above sequence then your PP is operating normally.

Hi John.

Just stepped through that process.

Garmin is connected and speed sensor is synced. Spun the front wheel and the garmin picked the speed up. The light is solid orange for a few seconds then goes flashing yellow.

Left it for half an hour then went out for a ride. Flashing yellow throughout the ride which was about an hour ans all the readings show 0 for power still.

If you move the Powerpod, do you need to do anything special to recalibrate, or do you just go out and ride and it will do it automatically?

It will recalibrate automatically, over the first 8 minutes of the ride.

Your speed sensor isn't working properly, but your cadence sensor is. Do the following:

1) with your bike on a stand, spin the wheel. My prediction is that you will not see speed in your Garmin window but you will see cadence.

2) If I'm right, then reposition your speed magnet/sensor so that the magnet passes within 1-2 coin widths of the sensor probe. This should fix things (you'll see speed in the window)/

3) If you still don't see speed, then I suggest you get one of the new magnet-less Garmin speed and cadence sensor combos. Place the speed sensor on the front hub, do a new sensor scan, and all will be well
