Zero Wind Speed

Hi John,

What if any is the significance of the various periods of zero wind speed in the attached ride file.
Ride started and finished at the same place. Local ground winds were calm to about 5mph.

I guess I am trying to understand what wind speed is measuring?

It looks like you had some tail winds on your climbs, or perhaps you did a bit of drafting.

When climbing your bike speed drops, and if there is any tail wind, then it becomes very difficult to detect the opposing wind speed (think of a candle with a puff of wind). Zero wind speed is just noise...

On climbs the amount of power contributed by opposing wind is negligible, so even when measured wind is zero there is no effect.

Thank you for the quick reply and explanation.

That makes sense about the wind have little impact on climbs.
