Blocking wind port

I got my Powerpod delivered today. And it was raining hard when I finally had time to do a first ride. So that has to wait till tomorrow.
That gave me time to see if I could install it on my mountainbike. On the roadbike it was easy to find a good place on the handlebars to mount it.
But on the mountainbike that is a lot harder with all the cables and hoses for shifting, brakes and dropperpost.
Does the windport have to have a completely clear "view" or is it good enough if it can peak between the cables.
I can understand that that could mess up the airflow but I'm not sure how bad that will be for measuring the actual wind speed.
I don't think a combo mount will be long enough to get in front of the cables.
