New Power Pod user/ checks

Hi Guys,

I have just purchased a PP after reading all the great reviews about it. I have always used a power meter on my turbo trainer but this is my first experience with using a Power meter on the road. I went out for a ride earlier and calibrated the PP etc. The readings seem alot higher than what i would expect to see when using my turbo, of course i have nothing to gauge this against so its quite hard to tell. Could someone have a quick check over my calibration and ride files and see if there is anything obvious that is wrong.

also the power readings seem to jump very high when you accelerate ? i have the power smoothing set to dynamic and then on my garmin i have a 3 sec average display, would it be better to turn the delay to 0 on isac softwatre and have the 3 sec average on the garmin ?

Thanks in advance.

Andrew

Has anyone had a chance to look over the files ?

Would like to get some clarification if the PP is working correctly ?

Cheers

Everything is working perfectly.

Your sprint watts are fine--you are a strong cyclist! When you accelerate rapidly your watts will jump a lot, this is normal.

Dynamic Power Smoothing allows for fast display of sprint watts, but smooth display otherwise. I would leave the setting unchanged.

Hi John,

Thanks for the response and for clarification.

I am really enjoying using the PP and would will be highly recommend it to others. Great device and well worth the money looking forward to using power whilst training on the road now.

Cheers

Andrew

i have the power smoothing set to dynamic and then on my garmin i have a 3 sec average display,
On my Powerpod I also am using Dynamic power smoothing; however on my Garmin (1000), I found that 3 second power averaging was too frustatingly slow to respond (especially to sprints). I just used the "Power" option in its (Garmin 1000) settings instead of the "3 second" average power option

ymmv

Yes, Garmin 3 second averaging, in addition to DPS, is too much smoothing!

I agree with you selecting no power averaging on the Garmin head.

Hi,

I also found this, i have been either using the smoothing only on the PP or either the 3 sec average on the Garmin, both seem to work well separately but together as you mentioned it becomes a bit sluggish.
