PP losing connection (?) with various sensors during ride

Post by munkster »

I'm pretty sure the batteries are OK (not long replaced them) but the cadence and HR seem to drop out for periods of rides for no reason. The data isn't missing on Strava or whatever so I am wondering what's up. I have the newer speed/cadence sensors with speed mounted on front wheel for reference.

Attached a ride for investigation purposes, thanks!

You have dropouts in all three of your sensors (speed, cadence and HR). This is a pretty strange situation.

Please do the following:

1) Press-hold your PP button for about 10 seconds, until its light goes out momentarily and then turns back on. This will hard-reset the unit

2) Make sure your HR strap is well-connected to your chest

3) Do another ride and see if this problem repeats itself.

4) Post your ride file here

Will do thanks. I will admit that the HR strap didn't read properly for the first 10km today but I put that down to not spitting on the contacts, it behaved after that once I'd warmed up and, well, sweated a bit! It is normally perfectly fine and this phenomenon has happened on other rides by the look of it.

Despite all this the power reading never seems to drop out on the Garmin readout, certainly not for the amount of time that the graphs of the cadence etc suggest, so I've not really been alerted to this much (I don't download off PP routinely now I've got it set up) until I saw it on the PC today.

Are you 100% certain you are paired to your own cadence sensor, and not someone else's?

Not sure how I could be, and that ride today was solo (as are the vast majority of my rides in fact)...

OK, done all that and *seems* to have not repeated the same problem. I've attached the ride data here in case there's anything you can deduce further.

One thing that is weird is that the file is dated today but the filename isn't, what's going on there?

This file looks PERFECT.

You lost your date and time when you did the hard reset, but now that you've downloaded a ride file the date/time has been reset in your PP.

You can correct the date and time in this ride file with the Isaac command

Great stuff many thanks for your responsiveness John.

I've been really impressed with the PP so far, and am recommending it to those ride buddies who are umming and ahhing over getting (usually a far more expensive) PM for themselves.

Cheers.
