One problem (0w reading) and few questions

Post by romi »

Hi Tom!

Hi guys! :)

First usage of PowerPod but due to local weather it was only a roller training. :)

First, this is the problem that I had:
My GPS is a Garmin Edge 510 and I notice, during the roller training, that sometimes the Garmin lost the PowerPod signal displaying 0W. The PowerPod was not mounted on handlebar, it was placed at 2 feet (0.6m) distance. Could it be a GPS unit receiving issue? I must mention that the PowerPod recording was smooth, without zeros, so I presume that is not a recording issue but a sending/receiving one. What should be the problem?

Now, the questions! :)

1. How can I turn the device off? Is auto-off in 20 min.?
2. Should I activate the trainer mode before every session?
3. Turning the device on, it revert from trainer mode to ride (default) mode?
4. For roller ride, I activated the trainer mode and sent to the PowerPod the training profile. After PP sensor peering, I expected to start the calibration, but it was a very short one, without counting from 1 to 100. I't that OK? Of course, there was no wind and aero data to take into account...
5. Could I setup the E-Motion roller (with mag setting to 0) as an equivalent for Tacx Galaxia roller? This roller have no mag unit, it's a classical one.

Do you have any other advice for a smooth power data recording? Any advice is well received! :)

Meanwhile, here is the Tom's answer to my e-mail message to PP support

1. How can I turn the device off? Is auto-off in 20 min.? It times out on its own.
2. Should I activate the trainer mode before every session? The unit will remain in trainer mode, until you turn it off.
3. Turning the device on, it revert from trainer mode to ride (default) mode? Yes
4. My GPS is a Garmin Edge 510 and I notice that sometimes the Garmin lost the PowerPod signal displaying 0W. The PowerPod was not mounted on handlebar, it was placed at 2 feet distance. Could it be a GPS unit receiving issue? I must mention that the PowerPod recording was smooth, without zeros, so I presume that is not a recording issue but a sending/receiving one. Not sure the issue, here, could be too far away, but 2 ft. doesn’t sound that far?
5. As I said, due to bad weather I used the roller (Tacx Galaxia). I activated the trainer mode and sent to the PowerPod the training profile. After PP sensor peering I expected to start the calibration, but it was a very short one, without counting from 1 to 100. I't that OK? You cannot calibrate on the Rollers, a calibration must be done outside. However, it is not needed for indoor trainer riding.
6. Could I setup the E-Motion roller (with mag setting to 0) as an equivalent for Tacx Galaxia? This roller have no mag unit, it's a classical one. Yes, I think you will just need to enter your combined weight with the bike, as it would sit on the rollers.

Do you have any other advice for a smooth power data recording? Any advice is well received! :) It should be pretty straight forward, as long as your speed and cadence sensors are functioning well.

So, regarding 0w reading issue, I am the only one who had this problem? No one else?
