"Check calibration" question with new cadence sensor

Post by munkster »

I've replaced my cadence sensor due to it being a bit dodgy (and PP kept reporting long zeros) and just done an out-and-back ride (attached) but found that PP knows nothing about my new cadence sensor despite me thinking I'd re-paired it.

Two things then:
1) How do I re-pair PP with a new cadence sensor?
2) Is "Check calibration" going to be any use at all without a cadence sensor trace? It processes it but suggests that my ave power should be 130W rather than 170W. Now while I'm no Andre Griepel this does seem a bit low. Or am I actually totally weak after all?

Any help? Thanks!

Yup, I missed the original post (NFL playoffs were Sunday...)

There is a cadence sensor ID in your profile, but there is no cadence data. Most likely you need to do a new pairing.

For reasons I don't understand, magnet-less cadence sensors take a LONG TIME to wake up. I recommend you pedal your bike around for about a minute, THEN perform sensor pairing.

Check Calibration does not require cadence.

Check Calibration does not account for DCRR, which is why its watts are lower. However, you will get correct wind scaling if you use the feature. By the way, your wind scaling is quite good, so I would not mess with it.

OK thanks, so I won't bother with "Check Calibration" then?

I will give the cadence sensor more time too.

Can you just really quickly explain how one does re-pair with a new cadence sensor then? Do I switch on PP, wake up the sensor by pedalling (for a while as you say) then hold down the button for a specified length of time? What lights am I looking for? Thanks...

Do this:

1) ride around a little bit so you're guaranteed your sensors are active

2) stop

3) Press-hold the PP button, for about 4 seconds, until it starts flashing. This initiates the pairing process.

4) release the button

5) When pairing is finished light will show solid green

OK, now re-paired with cadence sensor and done a 30 mile out-and-back ride. It's now losing HR signal (although all there in Strava) for whatever reason. It just seems so random. Should I be concerned?

Ride file is attached, the "Check calibration" thought I'd been drafting, I hadn't, and now suggests a slight chance in my favour. How does this look? Should I accept the new profile? thanks!!

Wow, with that much coughing I suggest you see a doctor... :-)

I have no explanation for your HR strap. PP records the data it sees, and apparently there was no HR data in the period noted...

I think it's OK to accept the calibration change.
