Strava and PowerPod

Post by kboatman »

I apologize if this is a duplicate post, but I did search for this information first and I could not find it...

Are any PowerPod users here viewing real-time power on Strava?

I am aware that this feature should be available to Strava Premium members but wanted to confirm that the PowerPod was capable of connecting via Bluetooth and producing a viewable real-time readout of power during a Strava ride.

Thanks

PowerPod BLE connects to your bike computer. Any potential connection to Strava will come through your bike computer.

Hi, I dont have a way how to test it as I have only the ANT+ version of the PowerPod, but I think it will work - Strava on your phone will work as a head unit instead of garmin etc.. So you can use, strava, wahoo fitness, ismoothrun app on the iphone and PP will just connects there via bluetooth.

John Hamann, CEO of Velocomp, says “PowerPod BLE/ANT+ maintains the accuracy, simplicity, portability and affordability of the original PowerPod power meter. And now, if you have a BLE-enabled iOS or Android smartphone, or BLE fitness wearable, you’ll be able to use power data on your device, using apps such as Powerhouse, Strava and Wahoo Fitness, making power training even more affordable.”

I am uploading all my Powerhouse app rides to Strava from my PowerPod BLE, using my iPhone.

Powerhouse app will be released very, very soon.

We will investigate this for the Android version of PowerHouse (which currently is in development).

As a Samsung Note 3 Android phone user (with integrated Ant+ capabilities) and owner of a Powerpod with only Ant+ capacity, I agree - please dont forget about us!

We have to allocate our resources to projects that most cost effectively serve the most customers.

PowerHouse Bike works with any BLE-enabled smartphone (iOS is being released now; Android later this month). We have spent a fortune developing the PowerHouse app.

Our view is that an ANT version of PowerHouse is redundant (the app already works with BLE smartphones) and costly. So, we have decided against adding ANT capability to PowerHouse.

Instead, we are offering PowerPod ANT-only owners two options:

1) Many later-production PowerPods have the ability to be upgraded to BLE capability, with a firmware key. You can read about the upgrade key here, and also get information that will let you determine if your PowerPod is upgradeable:

2) For PowerPod owners who can't upgrade their device with a firmware key, we will swap-out an ANT-only PowerPod for a BLE unit, for $125 plus shipping. For more details email technicalsupport@velocomp.com
