PowerPod not working properly

Post by beermat »

Hi,

I fully charged my PP and then didn't use it for 2 weeks.

This morning I went for a ride and powered on all the sensors and finally the PP. It connected to the Garmin head unit. For the first 10 mins the power values would alternate on the display between 60ish-0. Finally after 10 mins a reasonable value was shown on the display. About 40 mins into the ride the PP seemingly switched off and no values were seen on the Garmin. About an hour later it suddenly kicked into life again but similar to before it was showing extremely low values. After 10 mins it seemingly switched off again and never displayed any values for the remaining ride duration.

Attached is the ride file showing a duration of 1m:19s which again is odd give that it was showing power values for around 40 mins. My actual ride duration was 3 hours.

What could be the issue?

The PP battery will drain very slowly, even when not in use (it is awake in the background, hoping that you're going for a ride today!).

Your ride file looks quite normal, for the portion that was recorded.

It's possible your battery was low. I suggest charging it fully, then trying another ride. Let us know what you find.

New ride file attached.

The PP initially exhibited the same behaviour as before but after 8-10 mins the power readings settled down.

However, there are 4 spikes in this ride file which show absurdly high power peaks, there is absolutely no way I reached those levels.

What may be occurring?

TIA

Your power bursts are fine! They were 10 second sprints; you accelerated rapidly to speeds nearly 30 mph; your heart rate increased.

High wattages for short times are easy to do (even I can do them!).
