PowerPod Windsensor broken ?

Post by PaulK32 »

Good Afternoon John,

4 years an enthousiastic user of the PowerPod (V2 BLE), 1024 rides.

15-05-2020 I made a tour on my roadbike. PowerPod worked fine.
16-05-2020 I made a tour on my MTB. PowerPod gave value 0 driving on the "flat". When I did a hill it gave a value, some 150 tot 300W lower then "normal" on that part of the track. During the ride I thought "windsensor ?" or the CR2032 battery from de speedsensor ? At home I gave the speedsensor a new battery.
17-05-2020 I made a tour on my MTB. Again value 0 on the first hunderd meters. I stopped, changed the angle of the PowerPod a little. It gave high values as aspected (saw 1193W on the Garmin, 12900W in the software at home) and the value went down and after a minute it was 0 again. I stopped, pushed the button and did a new calibration ride. It went to 100 and then there came a value of 70W and the value went down, after 15 seconds it was 0. I completed the ride and saw at ascents that there came "above 0" values (max 430W) on the Garmin.

Can you help me with some options ?
a. Just use a brush to clean the windport ?
b. Is the windsensor blocked (fly ?) and can I try to make it clean ? Should I fill it with water, shake and let it dry ?

I have attached the 3 rides for your information. Perhaps the data gives you a hint. The 2018-07-20 file is the file from today 17-05-2020, the calibration gave the PowerPod a new date.

With kind Regards,
Paul

Your wind port is not the problem.

It looks like you tweaked your profile between your two MTB rides.

On the final ride you did a hard reset of the unit prior to riding, but you also did a new sensor pairing (your HR ID is different).

Somehow the rolling resistance was set to a negative value of -0.03! Effectively, this means your unit thinks your bike is being pushed down the road from behind, pretty strongly!

I set your profile to a more reasonable MTB value of +0.006. Once I do this your watts return to normal values. Corrected file attached.

You should do a new cal ride. Make sure your PP is locked on to the bike and cannot rotate. Also, don't change its rotational position during the ride.
