indoor trainer feature
indoor trainer feature
If I go ahead and purchase the ibike I would most likely like to be able use indoors. Does anyone know how the indoor training option actually works? Also, I saw references to traditional trainers but nothing about stationary bikes. i have a spin bike and not a trainer I mount my road bike to. Will it still work on a spin bike or is the indoor option something that has to mount to the trainer?

Re: indoor trainer feature
The indoor trainer feature uses wheel speed to calculate power, ie it uses a curve that maps the power profile of your trainer to the speed of the wheel or roller. The catch is you need to have a supported trainer\roller where Velocomp have created a matching profile, the list is quite extensive and covers most popular models. take a look at this thread, although I am sure there have been more models added http://www.ibikeforum.com/viewtopic.php ... lit=indoor
As for your trainer, I think it would be possible to get working. You would need to mount a speed sensor on the trainer wheel\disc and set the wheel\disc circumference in the iBike. The issue would be finding a suitable power curve in the software that is a close match for your trainer, there are some customizable options that might be close but you are going to have to base this on perceived effort. At least this gives you something, try mounting a Powertap or SRM to your trainer !!!

Re: indoor trainer feature
I'm also interested in determining the details for an indoor spin bike. My ibike was a gift from my wife and when she bought it she was led to believe it could be used with the indoor bike so the trainer feature was included with the gift. We have a Startrac NXT spinner with a cadence and HR computer.
Other than a power curve, what would be needed? Speed & Cadence sensors? A wireless mount for the stationary bike? Do we need different power curves for different flywheel weights?
It may be that its less expensive to buy a trainer than set up the ibike for this application.
Are there other ibike users who'd be interested in this? Is this something on ibike future to do list?
