iSport and USB Adapter

Post by trihardist »

Hi, I'm new here and I have a question:

What functions can you do if you have an iSport and a USB adapter? I was hoping to be able to download my calibration ride and coast downs and fine tune them even further. If I can't do that, what's the point of the coast downs on the iSport? So, does this make the iSport less accurate than an iPro??

Thanks in advance.

An iSport and USB adapter will allow you to download firmware updates (the latest FW is 424). You won't, however, be able to download rides or do multiple coast down analyses.

You can do coast downs on the iSport, just as you can with any other iBike, but with the Pro or Aero you can do multiple coast downs, which can be combined and analyzed in the iBike software. With the iSport, the most recent coast down is the one that "sticks". The earlier coast down results are not used.

This may sound unfair but it isn't; when we started the company, I remember doing multiple coast downs in Dallas. There was no fancy software or download capability. Instead, I wrote down the coast down results and, afterwards, did manual averaging to figure out the "best" numbers.

If you're willing to do that work, the iSport will guide you to the best result.

Thanks for the quick response. I guess what you say is fair. My initial observation is that the watts where very accurate compared to what I get on a computrainer. (my only other experience with training with power!)

Like many others I bought the isport GT because I own a garmin 310XT and it was a very affordable way to measure power. However, accuracy is very important to me and since my avg speed is greater than 20mph on most rides I thought the I would do the coast down test to improve the accuracy. I will probable upgrade to the ipro eventually (maybe when you guys offer a special deal ;) )

My question now is: Since I only get one coast down, should I keep my Crr estimated in the RACR menu or not? What do you think would give me the most accurate results?

Thanks again!

If you've done a coast down I'd probably leave the default Crr in the RACR menu. This will make your CdA measurement the most consistent.
