Hard drive crashed but I have my previous iBike files?

Post by rhino »

My hard drive crashed on my laptop. I knew it was failing and I had time to back up my files before I sent it in to get fixed. I got it back and I want to restore my iBike files, profiles, etc. I'm sure it's a simple process, right? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

We're not experts on hard drive backups but what you'll need to do is find your profile files (.ibp files), calibration ride files (.ibcd4m) and ride files (iBike*.csv). Of course, you may have a ton of .csv files on your hard drive that aren't ibike files, but unless you used a different naming format, any file that starts with iBike and ends in .csv will be a ride file.

Good luck!

Ok, finding most of the files is simple, but I don't know where the .ibp files live? Any help with the Mac file structure? My iBike folder has a ton of .csv files and a calibration rides folder with .ibcd4m files, but no .ibp files? My old applications folder has an Ibike for Mac folder with iBikeMac.aliases & iBikeMac.app 8.5 Preferences.

Did I miss the folder with the .ibp files?

Once I find the missing files, how do I link them to the iBike install on the new hard drive?

Argh! I can't find those files and I don't know where they're supposed to go once I do find them, or how to link the profiles back to the iBike application - Please, someone, for the love of god, throw me a bone!

If you can open the files, they should have a profile attached to them. If you open the file, then go to profiles->edit profiles. You can then hit extract and the profile that was in that ride file will be extracted.

Hi Coachboyd,

I have 2 bikes & 2 profiles. Seems that I was able to recover one of my profiles, but now every file sees either the same profile or no profile. Luckily I knew which one of my ride files was from my Scott bike and that was the first file I opened. My iBike has been on my Trek since the crash, so I figured that I could download it from the iBike. I go to Device>Connect... and the Com Port is set to <-1>. The drop down has 2 choices: /dev.cu.modem & /dev.cu.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync

Neither of which seems to allow me to connect to the iBike. After I "Accept" I go to Download Ride Data and I get "Unit not responding" errors??? Then I check the Device>Connect... and the Com Port still says <-1>

Please tell me I haven't hit a wall!

Ok, I uninstalled everything and reinstalled the app and usb drivers. I opened a ride file from my Scott bike (knowing that my iBike has been on my Trek since the computer died) and extracted the Scott profile. I can open previous ride files from my Trek, but the profile shows as the Scott and I can't extract the Trek profile from a Trek ride.

No biggy, I figure I'll just connect to the iBike and pull the Trek profile from the iBike. I can now connect to the iBike and I can download files that have a different Fric value, but exactly the same Aero as the Scott? When I attempt to extract the profile from one of the downloaded the ride files from the iBike, I get an error message that says "Ride file did not contain an embedded ride file"?!? If I select Advanced Profile Settings, I can "Get from iBike" but the Coast-down values don't change - they're from the Scott. I think I've spent as much time screwing around with this as if I'd just started over and re-paired all the sensors, repeated the 10 coast down rides and the 4 mile out and back. With the possible exception being that I've done all this at night and I can't do the rides on my rollers anyway!

John! Isn't there someone in your R&D or Engineering divisions (several hundred employees strong - no doubt!) who has the simple fix to what seems to be a VERY SIMPLE PROBLEM???

Assuming you have everything stored on some backup where you have access, look in the following location for the Velocomp directory. As long as that path is not corrupted, just copy and paste it in. I am not a Mac user but the structure should be similar. You are not looking for ibp files or anything like that. The profiles for use within the iB3 are stored within these files. ibp files are for importing and exporting profiles only.

C:\Documents and Settings\Fernando\Application Data\Velocomp\iBike 2 is the directory on my system. Make a copy of the existing directory in case something goes wrong.

Fernando is on the right track. The profile information is stored in those settings files, along with other information. If you got those backed up, then just copy them into your new HD. I don't have a Mac handy to figure out the path, but it is something like [userID]/Libraries/Preferences/Velocomp/iBike2. After backing them up, replace the settings file with the ones that are on your backup.
