Is My Tilt Stuck?

Post by 5am »

For the past several weeks I've been getting the same tilt correction/analysis after every ride. As a result I've done some very precise tilt calibrations, but the pre and post ride analysis always seems to look like the photo below. Not sure what to do about this. In the past, my green line slope before analysis generally tended to be tilting downward. The new upward slope is playing havoc with the gravity numbers post-ride and knocking 20 or 30 watts off my ride average. My mount is solid and the unit seems to function correctly otherwise. Hence, I'm getting a tad paranoid. During a ride my power numbers look about right, but the post ride analysis with the upward slope correction is knocking my overall numbers for a loop. I need some help from the experts, please.

1) Send me your file and export your profile and send that as an ibp. It'll help with diagnosis.
2) You MIGHT want to do another series of CD's and an o & b to see if something else is going on.
3) Remember, before every ride, it's best to put your ibike in ambient temps for about 15 minutes before you perform the tilt cal and wind offset (and CD's if you're doing those).

I'm gone this next week to rediscover my soul, but email my whareagle at gmail account and I'll try to help you out.

Okay. Per Rich's advice I did a new series of coastdowns and a 4 mile out and back ride today. Tilt post analysis appears A-OK now and running the past few days of ride files through the analysis with the new profile pulled up numbers much closer to my perceived effort. Thanks for the heads-up Rich.

By the way, what happened in this case is that unfortunately you had a bad tilt calibration on the day that you did your coast-downs & 4 mile ride originally. The main symptom is that you always were getting the same large correction on subsequent rides.

Glad things are working well for you now.
